- Work closely with CEO and his leadership team to position BMS as a thought leader in innovation, science and health equity. Ensure CEO and other leaders appear at the right speaking engagements and conferences to advance the BMS story globally.
- Craft audience-specific narratives that influence internal and external audiences, in written and oral formats. This includes distilling complex topics and data sets into meaningful insights to advance the company narrative.
- Set measurable objectives for the strategic communications function - from internal communications and public relations to analyst and influencer relations, with a clear view on how all elements of communications will work together to help BMS achieve its growth goals.
- Implement and maintain a robust global speakers bureau to create earned speaking opportunities that influence market perception, awareness and product pipeline.
- Oversee communications measurement, including the design and operation of relevant dashboards and reports.
- Partner with the Global Media Relations team to create and implement crisis management planning efforts including building and maintaining a comprehensive crisis plan and running leadership simulations workshops. Train colleagues in crisis communications protocols.
- Bring a data- and metrics-driven approach to evaluating thought leadership programs, with recommendations on how to build strategies and campaigns that will maximize ROI.
- Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, or other relevant field; Master’s degree highly desired.
- 15+ years of relevant communications experience with demonstrated history of team leadership and management.
- Demonstrated history of driving industry-leading media coverage that reshapes a brand’s reputation. Deep experience managing crisis and issues globally.
- Track record of finding, packaging and placing high-impact stories that win hearts and minds across internal and external audiences.
- Proven experience working with and providing strategic counsel and training to executives across the C-suite.
- Experience leading global and regional teams in large matrix organizations with proven success in developing, managing and delivering innovative, best-in-class communication strategies and programs.

Senior Director, Strategic Communications
Position Summary
Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications, the Senior Director, Strategic Communications is responsible for communications programs and content strategies that helps BMS maximize its reputation and visibility among key external stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in reputation building communications including managing executive visibility, media strategy, crisis communications and issues management.
You should be a strategist, have strong writing skills, be social and digital analytics savvy, and thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. You can also marshal teams and resources effectively. You will be responsible for maximizing the impact and reach of company messaging globally. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in leading and influencing global teams to deliver on objectives. The goal is to provide our key stakeholders with information about the breadth of our global efforts, highlight our focus on delivering sustainable, long-term returns for our shareholders, and demonstrate our commitment to making an impact on the communities where we live and work and on society more broadly.
