      The PRL Senior Site Director provides strategic and operational leadership and management for the Physiological Research Labs (PRL), which support Medtronic’s pre-clinical objectives and provides clinical educational opportunities. The position is responsible for the overall leadership: strategy, direction, successful operation and growth of the Medtronic Physiological Research Laboratories, including biomaterials, preclinical research and procedural training and education. This position requires strong collaboration with Business Unit R&D leaders to provide the scientific expertise and resources required to ensure business needs are met, while representing PRL to Medtronic Sr. leadership (ExComm, SSO leadership, R&D Council). This position reports to the VP Corporate Science, Technology & Clinical Affairs.

      A Day in the Life:
      •Accountable for the establishment of the vision, strategy, annual goals and objectives of PRL
      •Responsible for the PRL overall AOP, forecast and P&L to make business decisions and influence strategies
      •Represents PRL to external clients including business unit R&D, R&D Council, SSO leadership staff, and MDT senior leadership. Responsible for PRL relationships with Medtronic R&D and end users of PRL services
      •Manage a highly specialized and talented team of managers and technical staff within PRL
      •Ensure productive partnerships with Medtronic business units in order to meet their objectives and the objectives of the greater corporation
      •Responsible for implementing quality procedures to ensure achievement of high quality pre-clinical work, hitting standards set forth by the Quality and R&D functions
      •Be the voice of PRL to ensure visibility to PRL technology and capabilities
      •Carry out overall administrative responsibilities for successful conduct of business of PRL. This includes overseeing the development of, and administering systems for, the conduct of pre-clinical research, biologic evaluation of materials, and procedural training and education in accordance with appropriate standards, regulations and accepted industry norms
      •Ensure compliance with all federal, state and local regulations governing the conduct of business at PRL including FDA Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), USDA Animal Welfare Act, and all laws and regulations pertaining to employee safety and environmental regulations
      •Establish and implement annual operating plans for the organization, set direction for overall use of resources, and oversee all plans for the efficient utilization of Medtronic resources
      •Participate on the Medtronic Preclinical Research Council to fulfill the Council’s charter. Build connections with R&D Council leaders to assure alignment on policies, best practices, and initiatives
      •Present to the R&D Council, ExComm, SSO leadership and other bodies, as appropriate, and provide a comprehensive perspective on the role of PRL within Medtronic’s R&D and Operations functions
      •Align and develop the management team to tactically execute the strategy and vision of PRL
      •Select, develop and evaluate personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function

      Must Have: Minimum Requirements

      • Bachelors degree required
      • Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience with 10+ years of managerial experience , or Advanced Degree with a minimum 13 years prior relevant experience, minimum of 10 years of managerial experience

      Nice to Have:
      •Knowledge of the medical device industry
      •Basic knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP’s) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s)
      •Resource and budget management experience
      •MBA and/or graduate degree in scientific discipline
      •Previous experience in managing pre-clinical work
      •Previous experience in managing R&D work
      •Proven people and influence management skills
      •Domain knowledge expertise in pre-clinical research
      •Knowledge of regulations governing animal research and broad knowledge of medical device technology
      •Extensive customer focus experience, excellent communication and influence skills
      •Ability to lead and manage within a high-pressure, stressful environment
      •Ability to work with internal clients to solve complex research issues
      •Strong analytical, planning, organization and time management skills to effectively execute the PRL business plan
      •Experience in the management of facilities and complex operations
