What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Develop and implement new laboratory protocols for microbiome and metagenomic data collection
- Manage the workflow of large-scale microbiome studies, including sample tracking and nucleic acid isolation
- Conduct reproducible analyses of microbial genomic and epidemiologic data in collaboration with bioinformaticists and epidemiologists
- Oversee general lab activities, including inventory management and mentoring of students and trainees
- Assist in the preparation of grant applications and high-impact manuscripts
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Master’s degree in a related discipline with 3 years of direct experience in the field
- Hands-on laboratory research and/or data analysis experience in an academic, government, or industry setting
- Strong background in nucleic acid extraction, PCR/RT-PCR, and molecular assay development
- Experience with sample collection, processing, and quality control for microbiome studies
- Demonstrated organizational and leadership skills, including managing laboratory workflows
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Extensive experience with microbiome, metagenomic, and transcriptomic studies
- Knowledge of biosafety practices relevant to handling clinical or microbial samples
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a history of contributing to publications and grant applications
- Familiarity with advanced in vitro model systems for host-microbe interaction studies
- Motivation to engage in translational microbiome research addressing public health challenges
