- Work closely with patients, insurers, provincial government and HCPs in order to facilitate prescription drug coverage within new and existing reimbursement programs.
- Communicate with clients to obtain consent and to gather relevant financial information in order to facilitate the provision of reimbursement services.
- Liaise with the required parties (provincial and private insurers, physicians, nurses, pharmacists, employers’ human resource representatives and internal staff), act as a patient advocate, explore all options for funding of medications and/or services, determine coverage details and develop/maintain complete and accurate documentation required to facilitate a successful outcome of the reimbursement process.
- Navigate through the complex lobbying process through the form of appeals and escalations to obtain prescription drug coverage and reimbursement for these life-saving and costly medications;
- Work with internal staff in the coordination of reimbursement services to facilitate medication dispensing, invoicing, payment schedules and loan programs
- Daily and ongoing communication with Program Manager / Associate Program Manager for new and existing projects;
- Contact clients to confirm delivery of medications (including date, time and special instructions)
- Ensure adherence to Rx retention strategies in order to maximize business opportunities for SHN
- Administer financial assistance programs when applicable
- Bilingualism (French & English)
- College or University degree
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical, insurance or healthcare-related industries;
- Previous experience in reimbursement and Knowledge of public, private and federal reimbursement is required
- Experience in the healthcare or insurance industry considered an asset
- Exhibit in depth knowledge of public/private and federal funding mechanisms as well as Rare Disease funding bodies in Canada
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in customer service
- Proven ability to meet targets by setting priorities and time management
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written with attention to detail
- Strong computer skills in a Windows environment using MS Office (Excel, Word)
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Position: Senior Reimbursement Specialist (Rare Disease)
As a Senior Reimbursement Specialist supporting multiple the rare disease patient support programs, you will develop strong, long-term relationships with patients, healthcare practitioners, payers and manufacturer partners. You will get experience unique to the retail industry, while working for an award-winning national brand.
Our Senior Reimbursement Specialist provides support to our patients, by working on their behalf to obtain insurance coverage for their required medication. Specialty medications can be costly and can create a huge financial burden. Scope
The Senior Reimbursement Specialist is responsible for ensuring that SDMSHN reimbursement cases are managed effectively on a day-to-day basis. The incumbent must be able to work effectively, with short lead times and changing customer demands. As the position deals with highly sensitive information, the incumbent is expected to act in a diplomatic professional manner, and maintain patient confidentiality, as per SDM Specialty Health Network policy and legal requirements.
