- Build strong community relationships for success of program by acting as liaison with community (residents/stakeholders/shelters and animal welfare organizations) to achieve and sustain life saving goals.
- Be knowledgeable and able to communicate with internal and external partners in regard to community organizing and community centered strategies to lifesaving.
- Ability to work effectively with the community and animal welfare organizations including open intake and municipal shelters.
- Collect stories, photos/videos to showcase successes of the program, with an emphasis on representing the triangle of community (residents/stakeholders/shelters & animal welfare organizations).
- Develop communications materials and collateral in support of legislative and grassroots efforts including, but not limited to petitions, fact sheets, and talking points.
- Implement resources and training for Action Team members to be effective grassroots advocates and community leaders to build and sustain work on the ground.
- Facilitate and coordinate advocate coaching calls.
- Supervise Email Assistant Volunteer and manage the 2025 action team email account in a timely manner to address action team member issues, coaching, and requests.
- Manage data and accurately input data entry to online databases as instructed by Senior Manager Grassroots Advocacy for the grassroots program.
- Proficiency with Internet navigation, internal digital systems such as Hero, Luminate and Control Shift, a variety of computer software applications, including Microsoft Office and Zoom. Ability to learn additional software applications, as needed.
- Bilingual in Spanish/English required.
- Minimum 2-3 years experience organizing communities on the ground.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to think quickly on your feet.
- Proven written and verbal skills.
- Ability to professionally advocate Best Friends' position on issues.
- Experience in interacting with diverse communities and demonstrates approachability when dealing with the community.
- Resourceful, "roll up the sleeves" attitude. The successful candidate must have the initiative to resolve problems and seek answers independently and enthusiastically and demonstrate flexibility to persist until goals are achieved.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.
- Ability to work effectively with the community and animal welfare organizations including open intake and municipal shelters. This could include handling dogs of all sizes and cats when necessary.
- Strong interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations. The ideal person for this job is a team player, personable, professional, upbeat and energetic, takes the initiative, and uses tact and diplomacy.
- Demonstrates personal accountability to ensure that all responsibilities are completed effectively and in a timely manner
- Ability to work independently and use judgement within established guidelines.
- Accurate record-keeping and ability to provide monthly reports on various programs.
- Proficiency with Internet navigation and a variety of computer software applications, including Microsoft Office. Ability to learn additional software applications, as needed.
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time working at a computer, doing repetitive typing, arm and hand motions; also while driving either alone or with a partner.
- Ability to travel via various forms of transportation
- Have a current driver's license and good driving record with ability to be on Best Friends insurance.
- Out-of-town travel for the job is expected to range from 30% to 50% depending on the location of the job holder and the specific responsibilities and tasks assigned.
- Willing and able to work varied hours and dates, including holidays, weekends, and late and early hours or split shifts, as needed.
Location: Remote (USA)
Hiring Range: This position's hiring range is anticipated to be $60,000 - $70,000 annually, depending on experience.
Manager Interviews will occur the week of January 22, 2024 (recruiter phone screens will occur prior to this week).
Position Summary: Work on all aspects of promoting and advocating a Best Friends-supported Grassroots Program. This program involves supporting and implementing the grassroots, and grass tops, engagement strategy in support of achieving Best Friends' no-kill goal and better engaging the public in our mission. The Grassroots Advocacy Specialist will be working to create a diverse group of advocates to assist in achieving our 2025 goal via mobilizing the public.
