      Specialist Palliative Care Nurse / Clinical Nurse Specialist - Band 7 or development opportunity band 6

      Permanent role`s x 2 1 FT/37.5 & 1 PT/30 hours per week covering 7 day working

      Due to internal promotion this is an exciting opportunity to join our expanding and developing community palliative care team

Coventry Specialist Palliative Care Team provides Palliative Care for people with an advanced progressive illness in order to improve quality of life for patients and their families. The team strive to work in a multi-disciplinary, integrated way to offer the best possible care. We regularly undertake audit/surveys and are involved in national research.

      Main duties of the job

      The team consists of a Consultant in Palliative Medicine, a doctor in training, a Clinical Psychologist, a Head of Service, a team of Specialist Palliative Care Nurses, a specialist Occupational Therapist, a specialist Physiotherapist and a Technical Instructor .In addition we also have our Palliative Support team who deliver holistic nursing care and hands on personal care to patients in the last weeks of life, as well as our urgent/rapid response team.

      We work closely with GP's, District Nurses and other local services such as Myton Hospice.

      • Qualified non-medical prescriber or willing to work towards
      • Applicants must have access to an independent means of transport and be prepared to use this to travel to a variety of venues
      • The successful post holder must have the ability to work within a team
      • Applicants must be able to evidence that they have Palliative Care experience, preferably in a community setting
      • Good organisation and communication skills are vital to this post

      We encourage applications from Specialist Palliative Care nurses with a wide range of nursing skills and experience, both from the community and acute sectors, and who can demonstrate a passion for Palliative and End of Life care.

      • RGN: 1st Level Registration
      • Education to Postgraduate Degree level in Palliative Care or other relevant Practice
      • Non-Medical Prescribing Qualification (or willingness to undertake)

      Knowledge and Skills

      Essential

      • Demonstrates high level of clinical, communication and counselling skills relevant to the CNS role
      • Demonstrates knowledge and ability to formulate and deliver teaching programmes, in line with local and national initiatives
      • Thorough depth of knowledge of the CNS role in Palliative Care
      • Demonstrates knowledge of, and has the ability to offer, mentorship, appraisal and support to CNS colleagues

      EXPERIENCE

      Essential

      • Substantial post registration experience with demonstrable Palliative Care
      • Experience in leading a team
      • Can demonstrate experience of managing complex palliative care patients

      OTHER

      Essential

      • Must be a car driver and be a car user or have access to a car
