      Speech Coach

      Job Title: High School Speech Coach

      Job Summary:
      The High School Speech Coach guides students in developing and delivering effective speeches and presentations across a variety of forensic categories. The coach plays a key role in enhancing students’ communication skills, preparing them for competitions, and overseeing the logistical, financial, and strategic elements of team participation.

      Key Responsibilities:

      Communication Skills Development:

      • Instruct students in essential speaking skills, including articulation, vocal control, body language, and stage presence.
      • Foster confidence and clarity in verbal communication.

      Speech Content and Structure:

      • Assist students in researching, writing, and organizing speeches to ensure logical structure and compelling content.
      • Provide guidance in crafting arguments, narratives, and informative pieces tailored to specific event types.

      Delivery Techniques:

      • Offer detailed feedback on delivery elements such as pacing, tone, expression, and movement.
      • Coach students on how to emotionally connect with audiences and judges.

      Competitive Strategy and Preparation:

      • Educate students on the rules, formats, and judging criteria of various speech and debate events.
      • Help students prepare for categories such as informative speaking, extemporaneous speaking, dramatic interpretation, and others.
      • Develop individualized strategies to improve competitive performance.

      Mentorship and Student Support:

      • Encourage student growth through one-on-one mentorship, goal-setting, and consistent encouragement.
      • Foster a supportive and inclusive team environment.

      Practice and Feedback:

      • Organize and lead regular practice sessions.
      • Review and critique student performances to guide continuous improvement.

      Competition Management:

      • Research and identify relevant local, regional, and national speech competitions.
      • Register students and coordinate team participation in these events.
      • Supervise students at competitions and provide support throughout.

      Budgeting and Fundraising:

      • Develop and manage the team’s annual budget, ensuring responsible allocation of funds for travel, registration, materials, and other expenses.
      • Plan and oversee fundraising activities to support the team’s financial needs.
      • Collaborate with school administration, parent groups, and community partners to secure resources and sponsorships.
