Salary
To be discussed at interview based on experience. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Staff Manager at Bow Garage to assist the Garage Operations Manager to lead the team within our London business. Open 24 hours a day, 364 days a year, you will be helping to lead on the delivery of the iconic red London bus services that are the foundation around which London’s world-renowned public transport services are built.
Operating safe and reliable bus services in one of the most diverse and operationally challenging cities in the world is not for the faint-hearted, and is one of the ultimate challenges in day to day urban bus operation.
Your challenge will be to assist the Garage Operations Manager in the engagement of our team to deliver efficient and effective bus services on a daily basis to meet our customers’ expectations, while adhering closely to company policies, meeting our contractual standards and obligations to Transport for London, and all statutory requirements.
In addition, you’ll assist the Garage Operations Manager to lead, motivate and develop your team, promoting our vision and values, as well as addressing performance issues and matters of concern to our people.
Managing the performance of a large team of drivers, through a small but dedicated team of supervisory and administrators, one of the principle daily objectives will be to make sure our bus services leave the garage safely and on time, with drivers who are alert, engaged, smart, customer focused, and properly trained and prepared to understand and meet our customers’ expectations. We expect that you’ll quickly resolve any operational problems whilst working in a close and constructive partnership with your Garage Operations Manager, the engineering department and service performance team.
You will need to assist the Garage Operations Manager with employee engagement, health, safety, employee wellbeing, security and environmental issues plus working time/ drivers’ hour’s regulations, whilst championing our values. The ability to communicate effectively and forge positive working relationships with all our people and their representatives is essential, as is the ability to work within your garage’s budget and measure performance against it, whilst achieving agreed key performance targets and quality standards relating to driver performance and behaviour, driving standards, and customer service.
As you might expect, we’re looking for a proven highly motivated person with excellent people management skills, who knows how to get the best out of their team through motivation and empathy, but are equally determined to tackle difficult issues when required. You will set high standards in all aspects of your performance and interaction with others, as well as being highly organised, and able to successfully plan, analyse, prioritise, and deliver against agreed objectives. As naturally flexible individuals, you’ll also work well under pressure.
The salary for this post will be discussed further at interview.
You may also be required to undertake a selection module as part of our process, but this will form part of any employment offer. Please clearly state as part of your application if you are not available on any future known dates.
Whilst this vacancy is likely to be for Bow Garage it may be that the location of the role could change as a result of internal movements, so please apply with this in mind and consider that the role could be based at any of our London based garages.
