- Grade 12 or equivalent; OR
- An equivalent combination of training and education may be considered; AND
- 2 seasons forest fire related experience; AND
- First Aid Ticket OFA Level 1 with Transportation Endorsement; AND
- Successful completion of New Recruit Boot or Agency Equivalent; AND
- Successfully complete pre-employment fitness standard; AND
- Maintain personal weights standards as required for crew type; AND
- Valid Class 5 drivers license or equivalent.
- Attended BC Wildfire Provincial Crew Leader training or agency equivalent
- Prior Supervisory experience
- Prior Fireline supervisory experience
- Incident Commander 5 certification or higher as per the Incident Command System
- Previous BC Wildfire Crew Leader experience such as temporarily assignment as a Crew Leader
- Single Resource Leader 1 certification or higher.
- Higher education in Resource Management or related field.
- Experience delivering education or training to Adult audience.
- Qualified Faller Assessor, Qualified Faller Trainer, Certified Faller or Faller in Training or industry equivalent.
- To be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments and corporate structures.
- To keep current on emerging issues.
- To take in-house training and certification as required.
- To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required.
- To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan.
- To travel and overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required.
- To participate in Incident Command System positions as assigned.
- To work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat and mountainous terrain in remote and isolated conditions.
- To obtain and maintain certification and training for crew positions to meet operational requirements.

The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) is the Province of BC’s primary emergency response organization. It operates year-round to deliver its mandate for wildfire management and response to natural hazard emergencies. The BCWS operates provincially, delivering services through six fire centres, thirty-three zones and two provincial centres in Kamloops and Victoria.
Reporting to the Wildfire Crew Supervisor, dependent on Zone structure, the Wildfire Crew Leader is responsible for leading field level crew activities in response to wildfire and other all hazard incidents as well as assigned field projects related to prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery. The Wildfire Crew Leader fulfils a critical role in effective execution of fire suppression and all hazard plans at the field level ensuring crews are mobilized according to established plans, standards, policies, procedures, and legislated requirements.
