Job Description

- Support development of high-quality strategic analysis, business case recommendations and presentations for Board review and approval
- Support the on-going business strategy definition process conducted at the Operating Board level and within business units
- Build understanding of the financial performance of the Sainsbury’s business, the underlying key drivers and the market in which we operate
- Quickly build great relationships and liaise regularly with relevant subject matter experts to unlock knowledge, ensure alignment on recommendations and enable speed of project delivery
- Align closely with the Strategy Finance team who lead on the financial modelling, planning and business cases prepared by the team
- Expert knowledge of core consulting/strategy tools and techniques—key analyses, frameworks, research methods
- Has the ability to identify, design and perform analyses that are key to answering key strategic questions and communicate resulting insight in a clear and structured way for senior leaders
- Can think strategically, utilising a hypothesis led approach to break down complex problems
- Strong project management experience and organisation skills, with experience of working collaboratively and cross functionally
- Excellent stakeholder, influencing and communication skills and the ability to develop compelling presentation materials with limited supervision and diligence
- The Ability to understand and interpret financial reports and statements—P&L, balance sheet and cash flows—and familiarity with economic modelling and constructing business cases
- A background working in retail, FMCG or consumer good sectors is highly desirable

Our small Central Strategy team is at the centre of setting future direction for our business, helping to define and incubate key initiatives that will ensure success of the Sainsbury’s business in the medium and long term. Our work is integral to delivering current Sainsburys strategy but also looks beyond this horizon, ensuring a link between strategy and delivery.
As a Strategy Manger you’ll be working closely with the Directors and Heads of Strategy to analyse opportunities, prepare and deliver presentation materials, form recommendations, and at times manage the development and implementation of specific projects.
This unique role will be looking across all our brands at Sainsbury’s including Argos, Nectar and Sainsbury’s Bank, offering the opportunity to understand our business end to end and work closely with senior stakeholders. You’ll bring your analytical skills and clarity of thought from previous strategy experience to some of our trickiest questions.
