Department Overview:
The discipline of genetics centers on the study of the mechanisms of inheritance and the outward manifestation of the hereditary material. Reflecting the wide scope of the discipline of genetics in the biological sciences, research in the Laboratory of Genetics spans a broad range of topics, from the molecular and cellular to organismal and population levels. In our unit, you will find this wide breadth of work, from innovative technologies for genetic and genomic analysis of gene variants in humans, to studies that aim to determine basic mechanisms of development, disease, and evolutionary processes, and many other areas of discovery. Genetics pervasively reaches subjects applicable to our basic understanding of biology and the biomedical sciences, and their application to fields of agriculture, bioenergy, ecosystems and human health. Anticipated Hours Per Week:
Minimum: 6 Maximum: 10 Schedule:
Fly food will be made one day per week and is expected to take 5-6 hours in that day. The following day (about 16-20 hours after finishing making fly food), food needs to be bagged and placed in the cold room, which takes only about 15 minutes.
Schedule can be flexible but good communication is required!Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

A person who is able to safely lift 30-50lbs, as the pots of fly food can be heavy.
Must be available one day per week in a block of about 5-6 hours.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Must be able to follow instructions carefully and consistently.
Must be organized.Position Summary/Job Duties:
The process of making the fly food is the primary component of this position, though cleaning supplies after completion is required. A protocol is provided for the process. Food will need to be bagged the next day and placed in a cold room.
Physical Demands:
Lifting pots of 30-50lbs is required regularly.
