Job Description

- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Juniors and Seniors are preferred; however, 1st and 2nd year students are encouraged to apply
- Must be in good academic standing with college
- Must be of good moral character
- Must not have been convicted of or have pled guilty/no contest to a felony or any offense that would be a felony if committed in the state of Virginia
- Must not have been convicted of a misdemeanor of a serious nature that reflects moral turpitude or indicates a tendency to disregard the law
- Must be willing to complete a background investigation to include interview, criminal history checks, and drug screening
- College transcript – required (Unofficial may be submitted)
- Cover letter - required (addressed to Police Personnel Manager) with the following information:
- Explain your interest in the Prince William County Police Department
- Describe how this internship will benefit you and how it will apply to your future goals
- Document the number of credit hours to be obtained through an internship
- Indicate the internship hours required by your college
- Describe your college reporting requirements (evaluations, special projects, etc.)
- Minimum of one letter of recommendation - required prior to ad closing date (preferably from college faculty)

If you are a college student who is interested in a law enforcement career, Prince William County Police Department is offering a 6-week internship program designed to introduce students to the field. Selected applicants will work 20 hours per week for 6 weeks and receive $18.00 an hour. To meet college requirements, a student may request an extension to their internship, but an extension is not guaranteed. If approved, the extension will be considered an unpaid volunteer. The internship will run from June 8th to July 17th, 2026. Qualified candidates must meet the following criteria:
