      Job summary

      Somerset NHS Foundation Trust are looking for a full time fixed term Trust Fellow to join the Obstetric and gynaecology Team at Yeovil District Hospital to cover 6 months maternity leave

      Working a full shift rota with prospective cover the successful candidate will be responsible for the initial evaluation Acute Admissions through Gynaecology assessment unit or Accident and Emergency Unit as required. The Trust F2 when on call is responsible for the day-to-day care of all their patients in Antenatal/postnatal ward, any gynaecology admissions in the hospital, support to the early pregnancy and gynaecology assessment unit and any NHS patients they may have in the private wing on the hospital. As a Trust F2 you will have registrar working alongside and supervising your activity as well as the consultant team for any allocated clinical activity.

      Main duties of the job

      Admission, clerking, day to day care and discharge of ward patients as instructed by the Consultants and under the supervision of the registrars. You will review the results of investigations to take appropriate actions and attend ward-rounds.

      Attendance in antenatal and gynaecology clinics where you will have opportunity to see and learn about elective presentation in both obstetrics and gynaecology

      Opportunity to get experience in gynaecology and obstetrics theatres.

      Participate in the teaching of both F1 Doctors and Medical Students at the bedside

      Participate in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology on Call rota.

      Maintain a good working relationship with existing staff members in the hospital.

      Attend other hospitals within the Trust if so requested by the supervising Consultant.

      Participate in audits and current research projects. These are available through individual Consultants.

      Perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate Consultant, in consultation where practicable with his colleagues, both senior and junior. It has been agreed between the professions and the Department that, while juniors accept that they will perform such duties, the Secretary of State stresses that additional commitments arising under this sub-section are exceptional and, in particular, that juniors should not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged periods, or on a regular basis.
