      VAT Manager - EMEA Corporate Tax

      The EMEA Corporate Tax team is responsible for managing and dealing with a wide range of diverse and complex tax issues for the JPMorgan Chase group companies within the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa). The successful applicant will work in collaboration with the existing members of the local South African Tax Team and tax specialist colleagues around the world: while the focus will be on South African VAT matters, the successful applicant will also be expected to cover VAT matters / opportunities across sub-Saharan African. The role will cover both advisory and compliance activities and requires a candidate with an understanding of African VAT laws and regulations with a focus on financial services.

      Job summary

      This role will give the successful candidate the opportunity to play a key part in managing VAT risk in South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa in one of the most strategically significant financial services companies. The role will be part of a team with deep expertise in FS VAT across EMEA. This will involve working in a truly international environment, gaining deep knowledge of the institution from the inside and helping to respond and manage issues as the business grows and expands in the region.

      Job Responsibilities

      • provides VAT advice and technical guidance to the Business, Operations and Finance teams in various JPMorgan lines of business and regional jurisdictions.
      • reviews existing procedures and draft new procedures where required as well as project management.
      • implements best practice across investment banking lines of business and legal entities.
      • will represent JPMorgan at various industry VAT Forums
      • performs various VAT compliance activities, including liaising with tax authorities’ requests for information and managing VAT audit, submission of VAT returns whilst ensuring a robust, controlled and well documented VAT compliance process reviews new products and new business initiatives.

      Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

      • relevant professional qualification, preferably tax qualified
      • practical experience in dealing with South African financial services VAT matters.
      • strong communication and inter-personal skills, an attention to detail, is a team player and able to act independently, and deliver whilst working in a demanding fast paced environment.
      • professional work experience within either a big 4 or top tier accountancy firm, a law firm or from a financial services business.
      • Fluency in English.

      • strong communication and written skills.
      • quick learner with Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to formulate commercially sound solutions.
      • strong team player, with excellent interpersonal skills to build working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
      • excellent knowledge of MS Excel, PowerPoint and other commonly used applications.
