- Research, develop and implement stronger safety & security policies and procedures; research and implement patron point of entry procedures, providing a safer climate for our guests; ensure effective and efficient operation and maintenance of the facility access control, video surveillance, and life safety systems.
- Develop relationships with local Homeland Security, FBI and Secret Service Offices as a means to further strengthen the safety of guests and MAA employees; further strengthen our current relationships with the University Circle Police Department, the Cleveland Fire Department, the Cleveland Police Department, University Hospital Medics, and Medical Center Company.
- Direct and manage the Severance Emergency Preparedness Program to ensure the safety and security of the building, its contents and occupants, including patrons, musicians and staff.
- Ensure policies & procedures are current and that appropriate training and drills are conducted as required. Coordinate and implement local, state, and federal regulations governing the operation of Severance Music Center.
- Collaborate with the Vice President, Venue Operations to manage and direct multiple aspects of capital improvement projects awarded through State Appropriation funding. Prepare and implement appropriate maintenance and project contracts.
- Assist with planning and managing multiple aspects of Severance Music Center: maintenance, engineering, repair, preservation, restoration, and renovation as appropriate to meet the requirement of a historic building. Ensure the integrity and effectiveness of Severance Music Center’s physical systems, structures and grounds.
- Provide direct supervision and leadership to the facilities Hall Staff and Building Engineers. Develop and implement standard operating procedures for each reporting department to ensure consistent work results. Manage and audit the cleaning processes and procedures used by the cleaning staff to ensure that the appropriate measures are taken to maintain and preserve the quality of Severance Music Center.
- Oversee the delivery and transportation of F&B items, ensuring that they are stored in their proper locations.
- Ensure productive working relationships with University Circle, Inc., Case Western Reserve University, the City of Cleveland, and other institutions and organizations which relate to the operations of Severance Music Center.
- Assist to ensure that policies and procedures are in place with regards to the safety and security of the Blossom Music Center buildings; their contents and patrons; and musicians and staff for both Cleveland Orchestra and Live Nation concerts and events. Audit systems and processes for effectiveness.
- Collaborate with the Vice President, Venue Operations to manage the contract between the Musical Arts Association and the current management operator, ensuring the integrity and effectiveness of Blossom Music Center’s physical systems, structures, grounds, transportation, operations, parking lots and roadways. Maintain effective working relationships with the contractor’s local and national event staff.
- Assist with the planning and management of multiple capital improvement projects, which includes budgets, construction, details and deadlines with appropriate administrative staff, consultants and contractors. Assist in directing the work of the Blossom Music Center’s consultant, including the implementation of bidding and contracting of work.
- Develop and maintain productive working relationships with contracted site management, local institutions, the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and governmental authorities particularly in the areas of property management, traffic, and patron parking.
- Budget management for operations, venue improvements and salaries. Diligently work to find budgetary efficiencies through periodic audits of vendors and streamlining processes and procedures.
- Serve as the Senior Manager in charge of the safety and security of the Severance Music Center facility and its occupants as designated during concerts and events and/or regular business hours.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations, coaching and mentoring to departmental staff.
- Collaborate with the Vice President, Venue Operations on ensuring provisions of the labor agreements are effectively managed.
- Act as Front of House (FOH) Manager on duty as assigned for Severance and Blossom Music Center as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in non-profit arts management, hospitality operations and/or entertainment within a public venue;
- Minimum of 5 years’ related work experience required, including 5 years of experience in contract management and negotiation highly desirable;
- Facility management experience in a Performing Arts Center, Arena or Convention Center, with an emphasis on safety & security, union agreements, historic preservation and construction project management is strongly preferred;
- Excellent administrative, management and leadership skills to run a combination of facilities management and events staff;
- Strong problem-solving skills combined with a collaborative approach;
- Strong organizational and time management skills with a high attention to detail is essential;
- Outstanding customer service skills to manage high profile customer events;
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills to successfully interact with multiple constituencies and diverse groups of people;
- Demonstrate independent, mature judgment; conveys a professional image and attitude;
- Ability to quickly assess and resolve conflict in a professional, diplomatic manner;
- Experience in budget preparation and management in a variety of areas including but not limited to facility operations and capital projects;
- Willingness to obtain/maintain active First Aid, CPR and AED certification;
- Valid driver’s license required; must be able to travel between locations (Severance and Blossom Music Center) as well as to conferences when needed;
- Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
The Cleveland Orchestra (TCO) is seeking a Venues Manager to assist in providing extraordinary experiences at historic Severance Music Center.
