      About this opportunity:

      This position assists the Family Store Manager in planning, administering, monitoring, and evaluating the day-to-day warehouse operations of the Family Store ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures; processes, displays, and prices donated items to ensure a maximum financial return on the sale of store items; assists customers in a polite and friendly manner; supervises and participates in the work performed by direct reports and assigned volunteers. Ensures that all donated items are processed through the warehouse in a timely manner and in accordance with established standards. Ensures the Family Store remains adequately stocked.

      Key responsibilities:

      • Assists the Family Store Manager in the administering and monitoring the day-to-day warehouse operations of the Family Store; serves as supervisor to assigned volunteers, community services workers, and/or subordinate store personnel; trains and instructs staff in the proper methods and procedures for performing work; inspects work in progress and upon completion for accuracy and completeness.
      • Assists the Family Store Manager in planning, supervising and participation in the receiving, sorting, pricing and distribution of donated items in the warehouse; ensures that items are processed in a timely manner and in compliance with established policies and procedures.
      • instructs and trains staff in the proper methods and procedures for performing work. Inspects work in progress and upon completion for accuracy and completeness.
      • Responds to employees questions and assists in resolving operational and personnel problems. Ensures the work is performed in compliance with established standards, policies, and procedures. Oversees, prepares, maintains, and monitors work schedules for all store employees.
      • Provides input on evaluations and determining factor in employees who are hired, terminated, provided compensation adjustments, promotions, disciplinary actions, and evaluates employees under his/her authority.
      • Trains, coaches, and motivates store employees; provides regular feedback in verbal and written form. Develops, trains for and audits Forklift Operator and Lock Out / Tag Out safety programs.
      • Coordinates the distribution of donations with the social services staff; ensures that all items distributed have appropriate approval.
      • Discourages any unauthorized visitors in the warehouse area; reports any known entries after hours or missing items.
      • Ensures the warehouse area is properly maintained and secured at all times; keeps the dock and storage area clean, organized and in conformance with generally accepted standards for safety and fire codes.
      • Monitors the arrival and distribution of all donations ensuring that items reach the appropriate destination in a timely manner.
      • Supervises the unloading of incoming donations; ensures that items are properly sorted, stocked, and/or discarded in accordance with established policies and procedures; inspects appliances and furniture for needed repairs; supervises and trains employees in performing repair work and bailing clothes.
      • Receives, inspects, and sorts donated items such as clothes, shoes, household items, bric-a-brack, etc. according to the category and condition; selects items suitable for store display and distributes same to appropriate area for further sorting and/or pricing; discards items in accordance with established procedures.
      • Supervises and participates in tagging items with specially coded tickets and/or prices in accordance with established procedures.
      • Supervises and participates in hanging clothes on hangers and placing same on clothes racks.
      • Supervises and participates in packing items in boxes; ensures that boxes are marked; accordingly, assists in transporting boxes to appropriate warehouse area.
      • Maintains inventory of items in storage.
      • Supervises and participates in the housekeeping duties; ensures that the warehouse area is maintained in a neat and orderly manner.
      • Assists customers purchasing items from The Salvation Army by ringing-up sales utilizing a cash register; collects monies, counts change and prepares receipts; prepares and packages purchased items; prepares and balances the cash drawer and runs routine register printouts; prepares and delivers bank deposits as assigned; ensures the security and accountability of all cash register funds and sales records in accordance with established operating procedures.
      • Assists customers by explaining store policy and responding to questions regarding the pricing and/or purchasing of items; ensures that all customers visiting the store have a pleasant experience.
      • Assists customers who are donating items to The Salvation Army; directs customers to the proper loading/unloading area; assists with hauling donations to the storage area as needed; prepares and provides tax receipts as needed.
      • Answers the store telephone in a tactful and courteous manner; assists customers by responding to questions and providing directions and/or general information; may schedule and record donation pick-ups.
      • Supervises and participates in housekeeping duties; ensures that the warehouse is maintained in a neat, clean, and orderly manner; ensures the security of warehouse; ensures compliance for safety and fire codes.
      • Supervises and directs minor repairs to furniture and appliances as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.


      What we are looking for in you:

      • High School diploma or G.E.D. and
      • One-year supervisory experience working in a warehouse environment, or
      • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
      • Valid State Driver’s License with a clean driving record
      • Forklift Operator Certification


      Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

      Duties are performed by frequent walking and/or standing, kneeling, or squatting relieved by lesser periods of sitting or operating a vehicle. Work requires the ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull heavy (50-100+ lbs.) materials, supplies, and equipment frequently. Heavy mobility: duties are usually performed by combinations of standing, walking, climbing ladders or steps, bending, reaching, or transporting merchandise on frequent change basis relieved by fewer periods of sitting or operating a vehicle. Work is performed in a stockroom, warehouse, or store environment where there are discomforts associated with changes in whether; there are occasional discomforts associated with noise, crowds, dust, lint, chemical odors and the like.
