Lead Medical Assistant

Note: The compensation range noted above represents the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range.

Our Orthopedics & Sports Center Practice is seeking a Lead Medical Assistant to function as the on-site resource to other staff for day-to-day operational matters, as well as to perform duties within the scope of responsibility of a medical assistant.

Overview of responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Perform all Medical Assistant duties, including patient rooming, vital signs, EMR updates, chart preparation, medication reconciliation, and clinical documentation.
• Prepare patients for provider visits, assist with examinations and procedures, administer injections, and perform basic clinical tasks within scope.
• Manage prescription refill requests, pharmacy communications, referrals, testing, follow-up care, and patient checkout instructions.
• Maintain exam rooms, medical supplies, equipment, sterilization processes, and required quality control documentation.
• Serve as a primary on-site resource and point of contact for staff and operational matters in collaboration with, and in the absence of, the Practice Manager.
• Support daily operations by addressing customer service concerns, resolving issues appropriately, and maintaining positive relationships with patients, staff, providers, and the public.
• Coordinate and adjust practitioner and staff schedules, reassign personnel as needed, and respond flexibly to changing daily workforce needs.
• Communicate operational and personnel matters to the Practice Manager, ensuring appropriate documentation and follow-through.
• Train and mentor new hires while role-modeling attention to detail, critical processes, patient satisfaction, service recovery, and effective teamwork.
• Perform additional job-related duties within scope, including floating to other departments and supporting organizational needs as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education: High school graduate or equivalent; Successful completion of an accredited medical assistant training program.

Licenses/Registrations: Current CPR certification. Must hold one of the following Holyoke Medical Center approved Medical Assistant Certification OR attain approved MA certification within 6 months of hire: RMA/AMT, CMA/AAMA, or CCMA/NHA.

Experience: Two years general experience as a Medical Assistant in a patient care or clinic environment

Special Aptitudes & Activities: Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and follow written and verbal instructions accurately. This role requires knowledge of physician office billing procedures, medical terminology, basic administrative skills such as typing and filing, and proficiency with computer systems. Candidates should also possess the manual dexterity, attention to detail, and physical capabilities needed to safely perform clinical and administrative duties, including tasks such as venipuncture and patient assistance.
