About this job

Overview

At Forefront Dermatology, our Certified Medical Assistants help create an efficient, patient-centered clinical experience. You’ll work alongside dermatology and/or plastic surgery clinicians, support patients throughout their visits, and contribute to a coordinated clinical team.

Bring your certification, clinical skills, and commitment to patient care to a role where you can continue learning and make a difference every day.

Responsibilities

As a Certified Medical Assistant, you’ll help keep the clinic running smoothly while supporting patient care. You’ll:

  • Welcome and room patients; obtain and document vital signs, patient history, reason for visit, medications, and preferred pharmacy.
  • Prepare patients for dermatologic procedures, including biopsies and phototherapy; assist clinicians, maintain sterile fields, hand instruments, and document care in the electronic medical record.
  • Support medical scribing, preliminary encounter notes, and accurate MIPS and body-area documentation.
  • Clean, stock, and turn over exam rooms; prepare supplies, instruments, and procedural trays; package specimens for the appropriate dermatopathology laboratory and maintain assigned lab and pathology logs.
  • Monitor patient comfort and provide basic post-visit and medication education as directed by the clinician.
  • Review and document routine patient calls, escalate complex issues, and support prior authorizations, and biologic therapy starts with accurate electronic medical record tracking.
  • Maintain infection-control standards, sterilize instruments, track inventory, and notify management when supplies need replenishment.
  • Perform authorized duties under clinician supervision and applicable law, which may include medication administration, suture removal, wound dressing, blood draws, and specimen collection and processing.
  • Coordinate with teammates to support clinic flow, procedure scheduling, patient follow-up, and other assigned duties.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Current Certified Medical Assistant credential required, along with any state-required certifications, registrations, licenses, education, or training for assigned duties.
  • Strong organizational, computer, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize work, maintain confidentiality, and collaborate effectively with clinicians, colleagues, patients, and the public.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and electronic medical record systems.
  • Medical office or comparable clinical experience preferred.
  • Ability to obtain the Certified Dermatology Technician (CDT) designation within the established timeframe.

Willingness and ability to travel to other clinic locations as needed.

Physical Demands

  • Standing and walking for extended periods; lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds.
  • Bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and manual dexterity for clinical procedures and computer use.
  • Visual acuity for reading screens and documents and verbal communication by phone and in person.

Scope of Practice

Employees are expected to perform only duties within their licensure, certification, training, competence, and the legally defined scope of practice for their role and state of employment.

Meet the required credentials but don’t check every preferred qualification? We’d still love to hear from you. Bring your transferable skills, willingness to learn, and commitment to patient care. The Certified Medical Assistant credential and all applicable state-required qualifications must be met.
