Job Summary:

The Floating Medical Assistant provides essential clinical and administrative support across multiple departments and clinic locations in the Metro-Detroit area as needed. This role is responsible for providing coverage for staffing needs, assisting healthcare providers with patient care, managing administrative tasks, and helping ensure smooth daily operations. The ideal candidate is organized, adaptable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with different providers, teams, and workflows.

Duties:

  • Efficiently room patients and record vital signs.
  • Able to travel to multiple locations including (Warren, Novi, Trenton, Dearborn, Brighton)
  • Assist physicians with clinical procedures and exams.
  • Handle patient complaints professionally and promptly.
  • Manage authorizations for treatments and medications.
  • Ensure timely processing of medication refills and patient follow-ups.
  • Demonstrate advanced clinical competencies, including performing complex procedures.
  • Read and interpret imaging reports and other clinical data accurately.
  • Coordinate with physicians and other medical staff to provide seamless patient care.
  • Maintain and update Electronic Medical Records (EMR) with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.
  • Utilize EMR systems to track patient information, appointments, and billing.
  • Start and manage billing processes, ensuring accurate claim submissions. Submit at least one claim per week.
  • Understand and apply billing procedures and codes.
  • Schedule hospital follow-up visits and manage patient appointments.
  • Coordinate with hospital staff for follow-ups and referrals.
  • Handle patient clearances and transitional events (TEs) with precision.
  • Perform regular audits of patient records and billing to ensure accuracy.
  • Participate in performance reviews and provide feedback.
  • Support disciplinary actions as needed and assist with improving team performance.
  • Train and mentor new Medical Assistants and other staff members.
  • Conduct interviews and provide feedback for new hires.
  • Work across various divisions as needed to support operational needs and gain a broad understanding of different functions.
  • All other duties as assigned by the manager.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrates eligibility to wok for any employer in the U.S
  • High school diploma, GED, or suitable equivalent required
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred in the areas related to Healthcare
  • Previous healthcare and Medical Assistant experience desired
  • Must be able to achieve CPR certification within 30 days of employment
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service to show superior patient care
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm and drive
  • Able to work compassionately with patients and coworkers to exhibit patient care second to none
  • Exudes respect and flexibility to impact the workplace in a positive manner
  • Ability to relate and work effectively with others; works well within a team environment
  • Demonstrates excellent skills in verbal and written English communications for safe and effective patient care, in order to meet documentation standards
  • Willingness to participate in goal-setting and educational activities for professional advancement
  • Previous experience and familiarity with EMRs is preferred
  • Is aware of standards and performs in accordance with them
  • Able to work in a fast paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Valid Driver's License

Physical Requirements:

  • May be expected to lift up to 15-30 pounds with assistance. May be expected to push or pull 30-100 pounds with assistance
  • Work is of medium demand; walking or standing most of the time while on duty
  • Visual and auditory acuity and manual dexterity essential to performing designated duties required. Optimal auditory acuity required
  • Manual dexterity involving the handling of equipment and instruments or needles is essential to performing assigned duties
  • Physical conditions are clean, neat and well lit
  • May be subjected to unpleasant sights and odors, stressful situations and hazardous or infectious agents where judgment as to precautions needed to be taken is essential. Climate control and ambient temperature variances may be experienced and required by patient care and needs of the surgical team
  • Exposure to limited amounts of radiation, hazardous chemicals or substances and infectious disease processes are a possibility
  • Hours of duty may be irregular or unexpectedly extended due to the requirements of the daily surgical and clinic schedule
