About this job

Our client, a Clinical Laboratory company, is looking for a Phlebotomist I for their Louisville, KY location.

Responsibilities:

  • The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, trouble shooting, training and making work flow recommendations.
  • Patient Care & Customer Service
  • Greet and assist patients in a professional, courteous, and compassionate manner.
  • Verify patient identity and ensure accurate test orders.
  • Explain collection procedures and answer patient questions.
  • Deliver excellent customer service while maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Address patient concerns and escalate issues when appropriate.
  • Phlebotomy & Specimen Collection
  • Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collections on patients of all ages.
  • Follow proper patient identification and specimen labeling procedures.
  • Ensure specimen integrity through proper collection, handling, storage, and transport.
  • Adhere to all laboratory protocols and quality standards.
  • Maintain proficiency in specimen collection techniques and best practices.
  • Specimen Processing
  • Process, package, and prepare specimens for transport to the laboratory.
  • Verify specimen accuracy and completeness before shipment.
  • Follow established procedures for handling STAT, routine, and specialty testing.
  • Ensure all specimens meet laboratory acceptance criteria.
  • Administrative Duties
  • Register patients and accurately enter demographic and insurance information.
  • Review test orders for completeness and accuracy.
  • Maintain patient records and documentation.
  • Handle incoming phone calls and assist with scheduling needs.
  • Complete required reports and documentation in a timely manner.
  • Compliance & Safety
  • Follow all HIPAA, OSHA, infection control, and safety regulations.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Utilize proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Report safety concerns, incidents, and quality issues according to company policy.
  • Participate in required training and continuing education programs.

Requirements:

  • Draw blood specimens and register patients.
  • At least 6 months diagnostic phlebotomy experience
  • Maintain accurate patient/specimen logs
  • Comfortable working as a team and as an individual
  • HS Diploma or GED
