Summary: The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, trouble shooting, training and making work flow recommendations.

Position Responsibilities: Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc. Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures. Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and or other specimen collection (ex. urine or fecal) as required. Demonstrate technique/s using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully understand all of the physicians' orders. Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. Check all test requisitions or computer label against script to ensure 100% correct. Package specimens for transport. Stores specimen sample according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/ tube, accurately labels, follows different procedures as outlined by specific to protocol deemed necessary for transport to maintain integrity of the specimen. Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department trainings. Answer telephone calls, read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Minimum Qualifications: Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed as required in some states. Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast paced lab or hospital setting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or GED 0-2 years of experience

The Patient Service Center (PSC) Employee is responsible for providing exceptional customer service while ensuring quality patient care and accurate specimen collection. This role performs phlebotomy procedures, specimen processing, patient registration, and administrative duties in a fast-paced healthcare environment. The PSC Employee serves as a vital link between patients, healthcare providers, and laboratory operations.

Patient Care & Customer Service

Greet and assist patients in a professional, courteous, and compassionate manner.
Verify patient identity and ensure accurate test orders.
Explain collection procedures and answer patient questions.
Deliver excellent customer service while maintaining patient confidentiality.
Address patient concerns and escalate issues when appropriate.

Phlebotomy & Specimen Collection

Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collections on patients of all ages.
Follow proper patient identification and specimen labeling procedures.
Ensure specimen integrity through proper collection, handling, storage, and transport.
Adhere to all laboratory protocols and quality standards.
Maintain proficiency in specimen collection techniques and best practices.
Complete pre-employment screenings per guidelines.

Specimen Processing

Process, package, and prepare specimens for transport to the laboratory.
Verify specimen accuracy and completeness before shipment.
Follow established procedures for handling STAT, routine, and specialty testing.
Ensure all specimens meet laboratory acceptance criteria.

Administrative Duties

Register patients and accurately enter demographic and insurance information.
Review test orders for completeness and accuracy.
Maintain patient records and documentation.
Handle incoming phone calls and assist with scheduling needs.
Complete required reports and documentation in a timely manner.

Compliance & Safety

Follow all HIPAA, OSHA, infection control, and safety regulations.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Utilize proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
Report safety concerns, incidents, and quality issues according to company policy.
Participate in required training and continuing education programs.
