Job Overview

The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the Finance & Accounting team by ensuring the timely and accurate completion of month-end close activities, financial reporting, reconciliations, and financial analyses. Reporting to the Regional Controller, this role prepares and reviews financial information, supports public reporting requirements, assists with audit activities, and helps maintain and strengthen strong internal controls across North American corporate entities. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and able to work independently, exercise sound professional judgment, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high degree of accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepares and remits monthly/quarterly workpapers for payroll, intercompany reconciliations, general operating expenses, in addition to other workpapers and schedules as needed.
• Prepares and remits financial statement packages for review for purposes of public reporting in Canada.
• Assists with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, including support for internal and external audit requirements.
• Reviews monthly management fee calculations and related billings. Prepares monthly labor billings.
• Monitors labor costs of the North American Corporate Entities to ensure billable rates and intercompany bills are properly calculated and remitted in accordance with the terms of the Agreements.
• Reviews SG&A analysis reports, assists with quarterly Business Reviews for the North American Corporate entities.
• Ensures that processes within the North American Corporate entities are consistent amongst each other through the implementation of controls, standardized master workpapers and financial groupings.
• Prepare and post journal entries to support monthly financial close.
• Independently analyze account variances, investigate discrepancies, determine appropriate accounting treatment, and recommend or implement corrective actions as appropriate.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and strengthen internal controls.
• Exercise independent judgment in analyzing accounting issues, resolving discrepancies, evaluating financial information, and determining appropriate actions in accordance with established accounting principles, policies, and internal controls.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience

• Required Skills: Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and month-end close processes; Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail; Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines while maintaining accuracy in a fast-paced environment; Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and global teams; Demonstrated ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment; Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and financial analysis functions; Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations preferred.
• Experience: 3+ years of progressive accounting experience; Experience preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statement support; Knowledge of US GAAP required; IFRS experience preferred; Experience with percentage-of-completion (POC) revenue recognition is preferred; Intercompany accounting, foreign currency transactions, and multi-entity organizations experience preferred; Industry experience in construction, manufacturing, engineering, or renewable energy is an asset.
• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA, preferred though not required
• Physical Requirements: This position is based in our Carlsbad, CA office and requires regular onsite collaboration with the Finance team Monday through Friday. The employee must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods while working at a computer and frequently operate a computer, keyboard, telephone, and other standard office equipment. The role requires the ability to communicate effectively with employees, customers, vendors, and business partners in person, by telephone, email, and video conferencing. The employee must be able to occasionally move throughout the office to attend meetings, access files, and collaborate with team members, and occasionally lift and/or move office materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
