Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field.

Three (3) years of experience in accounting and/or auditing.

Extensive experience with computer software, specifically Microsoft Office products, and accounting/payroll systems.

Strong organizational skills to plan and complete daily tasks and specific project work.

Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work proactively and independently, and adapt to changing circumstances.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Must have regular and predictable attendance.

CPA, CMA, MBA, CGFM or similar designation.

Strong knowledge of governmental accounting principles and procedures, including budgeting and emcumbrances.

Experience with governmental or large accounting and payroll systems.

Previous supervisory experience

Cooperatively work with other accountants to accomplish tasks.

Supervise assigned departmental support staff.

Control and review general ledger transactions and balances.

Establish new projects and budget lines in the general ledger.

Close the general ledger monthly and notify personnel of availability of monthly financial reports.

Prepare financial reports to the Maryland State Department of Education, the Interagency Committee for School Construction, and other agencies in format requested.

Prepare reports for the Finance Committee concerning grants and other needs.

Assist in the coordination and conduct of financial audits performed by grantors, independent accounting firms, and other agencies, including preparation of items requested.

Perform account review and transaction analyses, and prepare journal entries as necessary, including standard monthly entries for all funds.

Reconcile general, payroll, and depository bank statements and transmit payment files to the bank.

Work with Maryland State Department of Education staff and Board supervisors regarding federal, state, and other grant application and reporting documents, including payroll projections and budget assistance.

Monitor grant spending relative to budgets and work with instructional staff to amend as plans change.

Maintain files and reporting information for all funds, including grants and capital projects.

Assist in training other departmental and school clerical staff, as necessary.

Maintain school accounting software system, as necessary.

Prepare billings for grantors and capital project funding sources and other miscellaneous entities.

Demonstrate courteous and professional demeanor to all stakeholders of Washington County Public Schools.

Perform any other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Finance.

Required prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer and other office equipment.

Ability to sufficiently move throughout the building and grounds.

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with individuals as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear.

Maintain emotional control under stress.

Ability to travel district-wide and state-wide if needed.

Ability to work prolonged and irregular hours.

Salary Range: $88,283 - $141,133 starting salary dependent upon relevant experience
