Responsibilities

Role overview

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will design, build, and maintain the data infrastructure that powers our access control platform. You will lead a small team of data and analytics engineers, set technical standards, and serve as the connective tissue between our security hardware, cloud platform, and the enterprise systems our customers integrate with. You will own the data pipelines that ingest millions of daily access events, deliver actionable intelligence to customers, and feed the compliance and audit workflows our enterprise clients depend on. You will also own the data management layer for our core business systems — ERP, CRM, and customer support platforms — using advanced SQL to model, reconcile, and govern customer, contract, order, billing, and service data so that product, operations, finance, and sales teams work from a single trusted source of truth.

Key responsibilities

Data Engineering & Architecture

  • Design and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines ingesting access events, device telemetry, and identity data from distributed physical access control systems
  • Architect and evolve our cloud data platform (AWS/Azure/GCP) including data lake, warehouse, and streaming components
  • Build and maintain real-time data pipelines using Kafka, Kinesis, or equivalent to support live event dashboards and alerting
  • Develop data models for access control entities: doors, readers, credentials, cardholders, zones, schedules, and audit logs
  • Own the integration data layer connecting our platform with PIAM, LDAP/Active Directory, HR systems, and building management systems (BMS)
  • Own ERP and CRM data management: design and maintain data models, master data (customers, sites, accounts, contracts, products, orders, invoices, and service entitlements), and pipelines between ERP, CRM, support/ticketing, and our access control platform
  • Write, tune, and review advanced SQL (complex joins, window functions, CTEs, stored procedures, views) to support operational reporting, finance and sales analytics, and data reconciliation across systems
  • Lead ERP, CRM, and support platform data migrations and implementations, including data mapping, cleansing, deduplication, validation, cutover, and post-go-live reconciliation
  • Establish master data management (MDM) practices and data stewardship standards, including golden-record definitions, ownership, and change control across ERP and CRM systems
  • Ensure data quality, lineage, and observability across all production pipelines
  • Implement and enforce data governance, retention, and security policies in alignment with SOC 2, GDPR, and FedRAMP requirements

Technical Leadership & Management

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of 3–6 data and analytics engineers
  • Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development planning for direct reports
  • Define and uphold engineering best practices: code review standards, testing requirements, CI/CD pipelines, and documentation
  • Partner with product managers and solutions architects to translate customer requirements into technical roadmap items
  • Collaborate with firmware and embedded systems engineers to define data schemas and transmission protocols for access control hardware
  • Drive incident response for data pipeline failures affecting customer-facing SLAs
  • Participate in technical interviews and contribute to hiring decisions for the data engineering team

Qualifications

Required qualifications

  • 7+ years of professional data engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a lead or people management role
  • Expert proficiency in Python and SQL (advanced analytical and transactional SQL, including window functions, CTEs, stored procedures, indexing, and query performance tuning); strong command of data modeling and warehouse design
  • Hands-on experience with cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, or Redshift
  • Deep experience with data pipeline orchestration tools (Apache Airflow, Prefect, Dagster, or equivalent)
  • Proficiency with streaming and event-driven architectures (Kafka, Kinesis, Spark Streaming)
  • Strong understanding of REST API integration patterns and experience building data connectors for enterprise SaaS systems
  • Hands-on experience managing data in ERP and CRM platforms (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Oracle, Salesforce, HubSpot), including data extraction, transformation, and integration via native APIs, connectors, and SQL
  • Proven experience leading or supporting ERP, CRM, or support platform data migrations or implementations, including data mapping, cleansing, validation, and reconciliation
  • Working knowledge of master data management, data stewardship, and cross-system data synchronization for customer, product, contract, and financial data
  • Familiarity with identity and access management concepts: LDAP, Active Directory, SCIM, OAuth 2.0, SAML
  • Experience designing data systems that comply with security and regulatory frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001, NIST, GDPR)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and deliver projects with cross-functional stakeholders in an agile environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present technical concepts to non-technical audiences

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience in the physical security, access control, or IoT/device management industry
  • Familiarity with access control protocols and standards such as OSDP, Wiegand, PACS, or ONVIF
  • Background working with PIAM platforms (Lenel, Genetec, Honeywell Pro-Watch, Gallagher, CCURE, or similar)
  • Experience with ERP/CRM reporting and analytics (e.g., Salesforce reporting, NetSuite SuiteAnalytics, Power BI, Tableau, or similar) and with integration or iPaaS tools (e.g., MuleSoft, Boomi, Workato, Fivetran)
  • Experience with graph databases or network analysis for entity relationship modeling
  • Knowledge of edge computing data ingestion from on-premise access control panels or controllers
  • Contributions to open-source data projects or published technical writing
  • AWS, GCP, or Azure data engineering certifications
