Overview and Responsibilities

Rotech Healthcare is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant, with Revenue Accounting experience to support the Company's revenue recognition, financial reporting, reimbursement analysis, and month-end close processes. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity of revenue reporting across Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance, Veterans Affairs, and patient-pay revenue streams associated with durable medical equipment (DME), respiratory therapy, sleep therapy, and other home healthcare services.

The Senior Accountant will partner closely with Revenue Cycle, Billing, Collections, Operations, Reimbursement, and Finance teams to analyze revenue trends, maintain accounting compliance, enhance financial controls, and support strategic business initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical accounting knowledge, healthcare reimbursement experience, and a proactive approach to process improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Revenue Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Perform monthly revenue accounting close procedures, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and financial analyses.
  • Prepare and review revenue-related balance sheet reconciliations and investigate reconciling items.
  • Analyze revenue transactions to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies.
  • Monitor revenue recognition associated with recurring rentals, equipment sales, service revenue, and healthcare reimbursement activities.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting requirements.
  • Assist with the preparation of audit schedules and support external and internal audits.

Healthcare Revenue & Reimbursement Analysis

  • Analyze Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance, Veterans Affairs, and patient-pay revenue streams for accuracy and completeness.
  • Review reimbursement, contractual adjustments, denials, write-offs, and revenue trends.
  • Partner with Revenue Cycle Management, Billing, and Collections teams to identify and resolve revenue discrepancies.
  • Monitor unbilled revenue, revenue accruals, and other key revenue cycle metrics.
  • Evaluate reimbursement changes and assess financial impacts to revenue recognition and reporting.
  • Support gross-to-net revenue analyses and related reporting.

Internal Controls & Process Improvement

  • Develop and maintain documentation for revenue accounting procedures and internal controls.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting automation, and operational efficiencies.
  • Participate in ERP, billing system, and financial reporting system implementations and enhancements.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.

Analytics & Business Support

  • Prepare financial models, trend analyses, and management reports related to revenue performance.
  • Assist leadership with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analyses.
  • Collaborate with Operations leadership to explain revenue performance and reimbursement trends.
  • Support acquisition integrations, special projects, and strategic initiatives.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Review and provide guidance to staff accountants as needed.
  • Serve as a key resource for accounting and revenue-related questions.
  • Foster strong working relationships across Finance, Billing, Revenue Cycle, Operations, and IT teams.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of revenue accounting experience.
  • Experience with healthcare reimbursement, revenue cycle accounting, or related financial reporting.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA designation preferred.
  • Public accounting experience preferred.
  • Experience in healthcare, home healthcare, DME, respiratory services, medical billing, or reimbursement environments strongly preferred.
  • Experience with ERP systems, financial reporting software, and data analytics tools.

  • Strong understanding of healthcare revenue recognition and reimbursement methodologies.
  • Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance, and patient-pay billing concepts.
