Overview

The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the accounting and financial reporting functions for Rug Doctor operations. This role performs a variety of general accounting activities that support the month-end close process, account reconciliations, financial analysis, and compliance with company policies and GAAP. The position requires strong attention to detail, effective communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional and remote teams to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting. This role requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and works under general supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post journal entries and perform assigned month-end close activities within the established close process.
  • Complete monthly account reconciliations for assigned balance sheet accounts. Investigate and resolve reconciling items, unusual balances, and unexplained variances in a timely manner.
  • Analyze balance sheet and income statement fluctuations between reporting periods and against prior-year results to ensure accuracy and reasonableness.
  • Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger, including supporting the opening and closing of accounting periods.
  • Review trial balances and financial information to ensure proper classification, accuracy, and compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
  • Support year-end audit activities by preparing schedules, reconciliations, audit requests, and supporting documentation. Respond to audit inquiries when applicable.
  • Collaborate with Finance team members and cross-functional departments to ensure financial reporting deadlines, compliance requirements, and business objectives are met.
  • Maintain working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and apply accounting standards to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives, accounting projects, system enhancements, and other special assignments as requested.
  • Provide support for ad hoc financial analyses and management reporting.
  • Perform other accounting and finance-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • Accounting experience preferred.
  • Experience with general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP/accounting systems.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
