Staff Software Engineer

Description

The Staff Software Engineer is a senior technical leader responsible for helping shape the architecture, strategy, and long-term success of our parking devices and applications. As a highly experienced engineer, you will be involved in critical architectural decisions, solve complex and ambiguous problems, and set engineering standards that impact multiple teams.

This role requires a blend of deep technical expertise, strong system design skills, and the ability to influence across organizational boundaries. You will collaborate closely with Product Management, Architecture, Technical Leads, and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure our solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with business goals.

The Staff Engineer is not only a hands-on technical contributor but also a mentor, setting the bar for engineering excellence and supporting the growth of engineers across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Strategy & System Design

• Contribute to the design and evolution of core architectural patterns and frameworks used across teams.
• Drive technical roadmap development in partnership with product and engineering leadership.
• Solve complex, ambiguous, and high-impact technical challenges, balancing trade-offs in scalability, performance, and cost.
• Evaluate and introduce new technologies and approaches that improve system reliability and developer productivity.
• Help ensure that architectural decisions support long-term maintainability and product growth.

Technical Execution & Standards

• Guide teams in implementing scalable, secure, and high-quality solutions.
• Champion engineering excellence by defining coding, testing, and architectural standards.
• Provide technical reviews and guidance across multiple teams and codebases.
• Partner with Cloud Operations team and infrastructure teams to optimize CI/CD, observability, and reliability practices.

Collaboration & Influence

• Work with Product Management, Architecture, and Technical Lead Managers to align engineering direction with product strategy.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, providing technical insight and recommendations.
• Bridge gaps across teams to ensure consistent practices, shared solutions, and technical alignment.
• Communicate complex technical ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Act as the point-person in critical outages and work with the technical lead managers to troubleshoot, diagnose, and fix any issues following our incident process flow.

Mentorship & Culture

• Mentor engineers at all levels, fostering technical growth and leadership development.
• Help build and sustain a culture of learning, knowledge-sharing, and continuous improvement.
• Model effective collaboration and create opportunities for others to lead.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of professional software development experience, with demonstrated expertise across multiple systems and technologies.
• Advanced proficiency in .NET Core, React (or similar), and cloud-native architectures (AWS preferred).
• Deep experience with system design, distributed systems, and architectural trade-offs.
• Proficiency with databases (SQL and NoSQL), event-driven systems, and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Track record of delivering high-impact technical solutions and influencing technical direction at the team or org level.
• Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence without direct authority.
• Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to a strong engineering culture.
