Job Title: Senior Tax Specialist

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Tax Specialist to support a growing portfolio of equipment, manufacturing, construction, and related businesses. In this role, you will handle complex state and local tax matters across multiple jurisdictions, partner with business leaders, and contribute to strategic tax initiatives. You will focus on sales and use tax compliance, tax research, process optimization, and audit support while working with large datasets and multiple ERP systems.

Responsibilities

• Research and apply multi-state sales and use tax laws across various jurisdictions.
• Analyze transactions and prepare use tax accruals using data from multiple ERP and business systems.
• Review contracts, invoices, exemption certificates, and supporting documentation to determine proper tax treatment.
• Interpret construction contracts and apply tax laws to maximize available exemptions while maintaining full compliance.
• Prepare reconciliations for payroll tax, sales tax, use tax, and related general ledger accounts.
• Support tax audits by gathering documentation, responding to auditor requests, and defending tax positions with thorough research and evidence.
• Respond to tax notices and provide timely, accurate resolutions.
• Provide guidance to internal stakeholders on taxability, sales and use tax compliance, and related regulatory matters.
• Compile, analyze, and reconcile large datasets from multiple business systems to ensure accurate tax reporting.
• Assist with the implementation and optimization of tax software, including tax determination, reporting, and filing processes.
• Continuously identify opportunities to improve tax processes, internal controls, and automation to increase efficiency and accuracy.
• Monitor business activities for sales and use tax nexus implications and assist with state registrations as needed.
• Collaborate with business leaders to navigate evolving tax regulations and support strategic tax initiatives.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in sales and use tax, payroll tax, or state and local tax.
• Strong knowledge of multi-state tax regulations and compliance requirements.
• Experience working with multiple ERP systems and large volumes of transactional data.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including proficiency with Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP, Power Query, and large data analysis.
• Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex tax concepts to non-specialists.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with construction industry taxation, including application of exemptions and tax treatment of construction contracts.
• Background in exemption certificate management and related documentation processes.
• Experience in manufacturing or related industries, particularly in a multi-entity or multi-jurisdiction environment.
• Demonstrated ability to support tax audits and respond effectively to tax notices.
• Proven track record of improving tax processes, controls, and automation.
• Ability to partner with business leaders and contribute to strategic tax planning initiatives.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Saint George, SC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $95000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
