Tax Manager

What We’re Looking For:

Michael Baker International is seeking a Tax Manager to join our Corporate Tax team. This position will play a key role in managing the Company’s income tax compliance and reporting activities across a complex, multi-entity environment operating in nearly all 50 states.

The ideal candidate will bring strong technical tax expertise, experience with ASC 740, and a proven ability to manage corporate income tax compliance, tax provision processes, audits, and tax planning initiatives. This individual will partner across the organization to optimize the Company’s tax position, mitigate risk, and support strategic business decisions.

What You’ll Do:

Tax Compliance & Reporting

• Manage responses to various income tax notices and audits.
• Maintain and oversee the company-wide tax calendar.
• Reconcile and roll forward tax-related general ledger accounts to ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Prepare and manage quarterly and year-end income tax provisions under ASC 740.
• Prepare quarterly cash tax estimates.
• Prepare and maintain income tax compliance workpapers and supporting schedules.
• Prepare and review federal, state, and local C-Corporation income tax returns.
• Collaborate with internal departments to gather information necessary for income tax filings and tax compliance workbooks.
• Review fixed asset cost basis and depreciation calculations for federal and state income tax purposes.

Audit & Risk Management

• Manage tax audits and inquiries from federal, state, and local taxing authorities.
• Maintain effective tax risk management controls and supporting documentation.
• Ensure compliance with applicable tax regulations and reporting requirements.

Tax Planning & Strategy

• Support tax planning initiatives that optimize the Company's tax position and reduce risk.
• Identify and compile information for various tax credits, including research and development credits, disaster-related credits, and other available incentives.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and assess potential impacts on the business.
• Provide tax guidance to support operational, financial, and strategic business decisions.

Leadership

• Supervise and mentor the Income Tax Analyst, as applicable.
• Provide guidance and training to support professional growth and development within the tax function.

What You Need to Succeed:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Master’s in Taxation and/or CPA preferred.
• 5–6 years of tax experience in public accounting, industry, or both.
• Experience with ASC 740 tax accounting and reporting.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local corporate income tax compliance.
• Public accounting experience preferred; Big Four a plus.
• Strong organization and project management skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage competing deadlines.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to build trust with operational, financial, and executive leaders.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• ERP experience, including Oracle, preferred.
• OneSource Tax Provision experience preferred.
• OneSource Income Tax experience preferred.

Compensation:

The approximate compensation range for this position is $105,000 - $120,000. This compensation range is a good-faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
