We’re partnering with a growing accounting and advisory firm headquartered in St. George, Utah that is looking for a Senior Tax Manager / Tax Practice Leader to help lead and grow its tax function.

This is not a role where you’ll simply inherit a book of clients, review returns, and follow processes that have been in place for 20 years. The firm is looking for an experienced CPA who can bring strong technical tax knowledge to the table while also thinking like an advisor and a builder.

You’ll remain hands-on with complex business tax work and client strategy while mentoring staff, improving processes, and working directly with leadership to help shape what the tax practice becomes.

For someone who enjoys public accounting but wants more autonomy, influence, and long-term upside, this is an opportunity to help build rather than simply maintain.

What You’ll Do

• Lead year-round tax planning and advisory for closely held businesses, business owners, and high-net-worth clients
• Review complex federal and state tax returns, with a strong emphasis on partnerships, S corporations, and related individual returns
• Identify proactive tax-planning opportunities and translate complex tax issues into practical recommendations for clients
• Serve as a trusted advisor to business owners beyond annual tax compliance
• Remain technically hands-on while helping lead and grow the tax function
• Mentor, develop, and review the work of junior tax professionals
• Evaluate and improve tax workflows, technology, processes, and internal infrastructure
• Partner closely with the firm’s accounting, advisory, and leadership teams
• Help establish scalable processes as the tax practice continues to grow
• Contribute ideas around service offerings, client experience, technology, staffing, and the long-term direction of the practice

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who combines technical tax depth with an entrepreneurial, advisory mindset.

You should bring:

• Active CPA license required
• Approximately 7+ years of progressive public accounting/tax experience
• Current or recent experience at the Tax Manager, Senior Tax Manager, or comparable level
• Strong technical knowledge of business taxation, particularly partnerships and S corporations
• Hands-on experience reviewing complex business and individual tax returns
• Meaningful experience with proactive tax planning and advisory
• Experience working directly with closely held businesses, entrepreneurs, and/or high-net-worth individuals
• Strong client relationship and communication skills
• Experience mentoring, coaching, or developing junior tax professionals
• Ability to operate independently without extensive oversight
• A proactive, responsive, solutions-oriented working style
• Comfort working in an environment where some processes are still being built

Experience improving workflows, implementing technology, building processes, developing new services, or helping grow a tax practice is highly valued.

Compensation & Benefits

The firm is targeting approximately $150K–$155K in total compensation, with flexibility depending on experience and overall fit.

Location

The position is primarily remote, but the firm values occasional in-person collaboration and is prioritizing candidates within reasonable proximity to its St. George, Utah headquarters.

Strong preference for candidates located in or near:

• St. George or Cedar City, UT
• Salt Lake City, UT
• Las Vegas, NV
• Phoenix / Scottsdale, AZ

Candidates elsewhere in the Western U.S. may also be considered depending on fit and ability to travel periodically to St. George.
