Technical Project Manager

POSITION SUMMARY

The Simons Foundation’s Informatics group, part of the Division of Autism and Neuroscience (A&N), is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Technical Project Manager to lead the planning and delivery of selected high-priority, complex, or cross-functional projects. Reporting to the Vice President of Informatics, the Technical Project Manager will drive projects from planning through delivery while establishing consistent practices that improve execution and visibility across the broader Informatics portfolio.

This is an opportunity to work at the intersection of science and technology, helping deliver the software, data systems, and scientific resources that enable large-scale, impactful autism and neuroscience research.

Working closely with product, engineering, bioinformatics, scientific, and study teams, the Technical Project Manager translates objectives and requirements into clear execution plans, establishes milestones and responsibilities, manages dependencies and risks, drives decisions and follow-through, and keeps projects on track through delivery.

This role requires strong technical fluency, sound judgement, and the ability to bring structure and clarity to complex projects involving multiple teams and stakeholders. The successful candidate will understand software and data systems well enough to identify technical and operational risks, recognize gaps in plans or requirements, and communicate effectively with engineers, scientists, product managers, and non-technical stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage the planning and delivery of selected high-priority, complex, or cross-functional Informatics projects from initiation through completion
• In collaboration with Informatics leadership and project teams, develop and maintain clear project plans, timelines, milestones, responsibilities, resource needs, and risk management strategies
• Coordinate work across software engineering, product, bioinformatics, scientific and study teams, as well as external partners and stakeholders
• Translate project objectives and requirements into actionable execution plans, identifying gaps, open questions, dependencies, and decisions needed to move work forward
• Maintain clear and appropriately scaled project documentation, including plans, requirements, decision records, responsibilities, dependencies, risks, open questions, and status
• Track milestones, deliverables, risks, and other indicators of project health; provide clear, timely status reporting to leadership and stakeholders
• Facilitate project planning and coordination meetings as needed, maintain project management systems (e.g., Jira, Confluence, etc.), ensure decisions and action items are documented, and drive follow-through on commitments
• Identify emerging risks, issues, and dependencies; work with project teams and leadership to develop mitigation strategies and escalate issues when appropriate
• Work with project stakeholders to ensure applicable Foundation policies, regulatory requirements, and data governance requirements are incorporated into project planning and delivery
• Establish and continuously improve consistent project planning, tracking, communication, and delivery practices across Informatics
• Perform other duties or tasks as assigned or required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• Bachelor's degree in technical, scientific, or related field, or equivalent professional experience

Experience

• 5+ years of experience managing complex technical projects involving software engineering, data systems, or comparable technology environments
• Demonstrated experience working with technical teams to develop project plans, manage milestones, dependencies, risks, and deliverables, and drive projects through completion

Related Skills & Other Requirements

• Strong technical fluency and the ability to understand software and data systems well enough to identify risks, dependencies, gaps, and questions requiring resolution
• Knowledge of project management approaches and methodologies, including Agile and other iterative or plan-driven approaches, with the judgment to apply them appropriately to different types of projects
• Proficiency with project management and collaboration tools such as Jira, monday.com, or comparable platforms
• Familiarity with modern software development practices and workflows, including version control, issue tracking, testing, and release processes
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines while anticipating needs and potential issues
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with engineers, scientists, product managers, leadership, external partners, and other stakeholders
• Ability to work effectively with diverse personalities, disciplines, and communication styles and to build alignment among stakeholders with differing priorities
• Sound judgment, discretion, reliability, and a demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

• The full-time annual compensation range for this position is $120,000-$140,000 depending on experience
