About this job

Description

The Universal Banker is an entry-level sales and relationship-banking position. A primary requirement of this role is to actively identify customer needs, recommend appropriate Bank solutions and achieve assigned monthly sales and referral scorecard goals. The Universal Banker also opens and services accounts and performs day-to-day teller work; however, transaction responsibilities do not replace or reduce the role’s sales expectations. Employees in this position are expected to initiate customer conversations, ask for business, follow up on opportunities and demonstrate consistent progress toward individual goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome customers, assess their needs and explain relevant personal and business deposit products and services.
  • Open and accurately document checking, savings, certificates of deposit, safe deposit boxes, IRAs, online banking, debit cards, credit cards and other approved products within role authority.
  • Complete account maintenance, research, stop payments, address changes, check orders, funds transfers and other service requests.
  • Process teller transactions and balance a cash drawer when assigned.
  • Resolve routine customer concerns and involve the Branch Lead or appropriate partner when additional authority or expertise is needed.
  • Build knowledge of Bank products, digital tools and business partners to support effective customer conversations and referrals.

Sales, Service and Scorecard Expectations

  • Meet assigned monthly sales, product and referral scorecard goals as an essential responsibility of the position.
  • Proactively initiate needs-based conversations with customers, recommend suitable solutions and confidently ask for the customer’s business rather than waiting for customers to request additional products or services.
  • Develop qualified referrals to other business units, complete timely follow-up and maintain ownership of agreed next steps.
  • Accurately and consistently record sales activities, customer contacts, referrals, follow-up and outcomes in the designated tracking process.
  • Review scorecard results and activity with the Branch Lead, accept coaching, and make prompt changes when performance or activity is below expectation.
  • Actively participate in sales training, outbound calling, campaigns, prospecting, follow-up activities and branch sales initiatives.

Risk, Compliance and Operational Standards

  • Apply account-opening, teller, fraud-prevention, loss-control and security procedures consistently.
  • Understand and follow applicable requirements, including BSA and relevant consumer regulations.
  • Maintain required documentation and protect customer and Bank information.
  • Exercise sound judgment and promptly escalate exceptions, suspicious activity, errors or customer concerns.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Customer-service, retail, cash-handling or sales experience preferred.
  • Basic math, computer and typing skills.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort initiating customer conversations.
  • Attention to detail, good judgment and ability to handle confidential information.
  • Regular and punctual attendance with flexibility to work assigned hours, including rotating Saturdays.

Success in This Role

  • Consistent achievement of assigned monthly sales and referral scorecard goals, supported by appropriate daily activity and follow-up.
  • Accurate account opening, servicing and transaction work.
  • Proactive needs-based recommendations, confident requests for the customer’s business and documented follow-through on opportunities.
  • Coachability, product knowledge growth and dependable teamwork.
