      Job Description Summary:
      Together with members of William & Mary and our broader communities, we cultivate equitable and transformational relationships and provide programming and resources for students to become lifelong community-centered leaders.

      Reporting to the Director of Civic & Community Engagement, the Assistant Director advances Civic & Community Engagement efforts by managing civic engagement initiatives including the Civic Action Scorecard and voter engagement, executing signature campus-community events, and promoting active citizenship across campus. The Assistant Director oversees the GivePulse platform, leveraging data to guide decision-making and improve campus-community collaboration as well as communication efforts to better engage stakeholders and share the impact of our work.

      Job Description:

      Required Qualifications:
      • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
      • Strong event coordination and/or project management skills.
      • Experience advising, training, or leading students or volunteers.
      • Ability to manage and effectively communicate data.
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
      • Ability to build effective collaborative partnerships.
      • Commitment to civic learning, democratic engagement, and ethical community partnerships.


      Preferred Qualifications:
      • Master's degree in a field related to student development.
      • Experience designing and implementing community engagement, service-learning, or civic leadership programming.
      • Experience with GivePulse or similar engagement tracking platforms.
      • Experience managing large-scale events, conferences, or workshops.
      • Experience with assessment of student learning and/or community impact.
      • Ability to facilitate groups toward shared goals.


      Conditions of Employment:

      This position may require additional hours beyond the typical work week, to include occasional overnight and weekend work as needed to meet the business needs of the operation.

      Duties:

      30%- Campus & Community Initiatives:
      • Execute major community partnership programming including bi-annual service carnival and partnership forum and annual workshop to showcase opportunities and strengthen the connections between community partners and campus stakeholders and resources
      • Produce issue education events which highlight community partners and opportunities to engage, such as a quarterly community speaker series
      • Participate in community events as representative of Civic & Community Engagement and William & Mary as appropriate, sharing opportunities to engage and learning about community needs
      • Execute annual Active Citizens Conference to engage students from W&M and the region in practices, strategies, and reflections on social change and civic leadership
      • Manage award and recognition processes which highlight student, staff, and partner exemplars, including James Monroe Prize, President's Award for Service, John Lewis Award, and Active Citizenship Awards
      • Administer the community internships program including processes for selecting placements and interns, funding distribution, and tracking student and community outcomes


      30%- Civic Engagement:
      • Advance and maintain the Civic Action Scorecard, including promoting the resource, managing data, and elevating the outcomes
      • Design and implement campus-wide civic engagement opportunities which align with the Civic Action Scorecard (e.g. Constitution Day, a facilitated dialogue, service days, or pluralism workshop)
      • Convene voter engagement committee and coordinate voter engagement partnerships and programming, including voter registration efforts and participation in national voter engagement efforts
      • Advise and supervise civic engagement student leaders, including Voter Engagement committee


      20%- GivePulse:
      • Serve as primary administrator and point of contact for GivePulse, campus-wide community engagement technology platform, including with W&M IT and Procurement
      • Enhance GivePulse outreach and resources to increase campus-community engagement and optimize usage
      • Utilize the data collected in W&M GivePulse to better inform decisions and reporting on W&M community engagement from the individual to institutional level


      10%- Communications & Marketing:
      • Produce high-quality communications and marketing material that tell the story of Civic & Community Engagement, engage stakeholders, and share opportunities to participate
      • Develop and implement department communication plan and contribute to division and institutional communication and marketing efforts


      10%- Departmental, Division, and Institutional Citizenship:
      • Contribute to other priorities and initiatives of the department such as integration of civic learning and action goals, assessment, partnership development, student advising, and strategic planning
      • Engage in professional development and learn about trends, strategies, and best practices in the field
      • Other duties as assigned


      Hiring Range: $55,000 up to $58,000 commensurate with experience & internal alignment.
