What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Review development proposals and applications for compliance with city standards and regulations
- Provide planning guidance and respond to inquiries from developers, property owners, and the public
- Conduct research and analysis to support planning projects and prepare reports
- Enforce zoning regulations and coordinate with other departments on land use issues
- Serve as staff to the Planning Commission and City Council, preparing agendas and reports
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Equivalent to the completion of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in planning, environmental studies, or a closely related field
- No professional experience required, but one (1) year of prior municipal planning experience is desirable
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license
- Strong analytical and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Membership in professional organizations such as the American Planning Association
- Master's degree in Planning or a closely related field
- Experience in land-use urban planning
- Familiarity with California planning regulations and policies
- Certification with the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP)
