      Overview Of Position

      The Category Manager of Indirect materials will drive sourcing strategies for key commodities and spend categories to achieve broad business objectives within the Facilities, Operations, and IT spend categories globally. Develop global processes supporting the purchasing objectives within the new markets we are implementing. Executes strategies for contracting, supplier management, business partnering and cost savings. Contributes to annual savings targets. Maintains and provides a current understanding of industry best practices and technology trends to team members and business partners.

      The Category Manager Indirect will contribute to procurement department with legal and ethical means of ensuring lowest total cost, clarifying vendor requirements and identifying opportunities for business improvement. While the Category Manager of Indirect materials is a very strategic role, the ideal candidate will have experience in and appreciation of purchasing strategy, process development, as well as day to day tactical responsiveness, taking particular care of special requests and projects that demand smaller supply, specialty items or changed/condenses delivery timeframes.

      Job Responsibilities

      1. Provides daily support to the organization in purchasing materials within the US market. Approx. $100M annual spend.
      2. Supports global business strategies and objectives through effective procurement of goods and services. Develops, oversees, and improves overall purchasing processes within the markets we are doing business.
      3. Develops innovative approaches to sourcing while using analytics and processes to determine scenarios, benefits, risks and change management impact of each of those options.
      4. Negotiates appropriate service agreements that result in preferential pricing, terms and conditions for Medifast/OPTAVIA. Collaborates with legal regarding the review of MSA’s.
      5. Monthly reviews of spending of various department expenses. Ex: Facilities / office supplies / manufacturing supplies / travel costs / etc. Creates effective reporting to provide management insight into issues / concerns / trends.
      6. Analyzes company spending to identify opportunities to reduce cost, improve supplier performance and improve internal efficiencies in managing the activity within the business. Evaluates supplier core competencies and competitive positioning using industry research and cost models, if appropriate.
      7. Lead contract negotiations with internal business partners to provide best overall value to the Company
      8. Oversee and advise on contract structure and terms and conditions. Heavy emphasis on technical services and software licensing agreements.
      9. Identifying and achieving cost reductions through strong analytical and leadership skills
      10. Engage with key business leaders, colleagues, and other stakeholders to gather business requirements and specifications within multiple Corporate Functions and incorporate these into sourcing strategies, supplier selections and decisions.

      Scope

      Category Manager Indirect is responsible for overseeing and providing visibility to all indirect spend (approx.. $100M). Works collaboratively and gives direction as needed to MRO/Facilities Purchasing Agent (OM). Provides insight, spend category information, industry trends, and vendor analysis for all Medifast business units. Provides robust analysis and reporting of all spend categories as required by supervisor. Meets regularly with suppliers to review spend, seek savings opportunities, discuss trends, etc. Reviews savings opportunities with all key stakeholders and purchasing agent as needed. Provides strategic sourcing recommendations to internal and external customers. Conducts RFP/bidding process on spend items/categories as requested or needed. Negotiates/reviews all indirect spend agreements, working collaboratively with legal for positive agreement outcome for Medifast.

      Knowledge, Education, Skills & Abilities

      • 7+ years purchasing related experience (contract review, financial analysis, etc.) for a global company.
      • 3+ years’ management/supervisory experience.
      • Bachelor’s degree (Supply Chain Management or Finance) preferred.
      • Demonstrates an effective user of MS Office products. Experience with working in an ERP environment.
      • Project management a plus.
      • Customer focused – Understanding of “Sense of Urgency”.
      • Strong human relations skills to select, develop, mentor, discipline and reward employees.
      • Assertiveness to negotiate and mediate complex pricing and financial implications of contracts.
      • Demonstrated ability to motivate and influence others in a dynamic, high pressure environment.
