- At least 10 years of management and decision-making experience, as well as the ability to lead and problem solve are core job requirements.
- The ideal candidate also has Senate management experience and has a management certification through the Senate Chief Counsel for employment (SCCE).
- A certification from the Society for Human Resource Management, or an advanced degree in management may be substituted for Senate management experience.
- The successful candidate will need to demonstrate the ability to lead a diverse team, while managing and directing change.
- At least 10 years of management experience.
- Senate office or committee management experience is desired.
- HR certification through SHRM or another HR program such as the SCCE certificate program.
- Highly responsible executive level managerial work requiring judgment, leadership, strategic planning, innovation, financial acumen, and the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, employees, and stakeholders.
- Ability to lead a diverse team in a Hybrid environment.
- Highly developed problem-solving skills.
- The person in this position needs to occasionally sit and/or stand for long durations.

Demonstrates commitment to leadership: leading by example, looking for opportunities to improve and innovate. Develops and executes human resource strategy within the Senate Sergeant at Arms including workforce planning, talent management, change management, recruiting, onboarding etc. Ensures our commitments to our employees are met, establishing consistent standards, expectations, and policies, demonstrating genuine concern for and interest in the professional development of SAA employees. Identifies stumbling blocks, finds solutions, and works to build consensus and cooperation in order to accomplish our organizational goals and objectives. Leads the implementation of a Human Resource Information System that integrates with other Senate systems. Hires, trains, and directs the HR staff who work collaboratively across the Sergeant at Arms and with the Disbursing office. Updates policies and procedures for all Human Capital processes and ensures their alignment internally and externally. Ensures the SAA identifies, attracts, and retains a high-quality and diverse workforce capable of accomplishing the agency’s mission; provides actionable guidance to management and employees; maintains a position classification program designed to determine appropriate pay band, occupational grouping, title and pay grade; provides managers the tools they need to schedule, evaluate, compensate, train and support their employees; and ensure the Sergeant at Arms is a diverse, fair, and well-managed organization.
