      Job Summary and Description:

      The successful candidate will join the Energy Systems and Climate Analysis Group at EPRI (http://esca.epri.com), a team of leading earth scientists, climate economists and energy system analysts. In this role, you will contribute to the Climate Resilience Analysis project team's research activities and efforts to improve understanding of climate risk and approaches to enhance energy-societal resilience. EPRI works with stakeholders to characterize current and projected trends in relevant weather and climate variables, identify potential climate impacts, complete quantitative climate risk assessments, and assess possible response strategies.

      We are looking for candidates with demonstrated quantitative analysis and Python coding skills with applied experience with weather and climate data products. You will support the acquisition and analysis of climate data that will be used for physical climate risk assessments, climate adaptation and resilience strategies, and related topics. This work will be done in close collaboration with project leads. You may also be asked to support the team's broader portfolio of projects, including work with historical observations and gridded (i.e., reanalysis) data, climate projection data (e.g., downscaled CMIP6 products) and/or integration with energy system data and tools. You may also assist project managers with communications and writing reports as needed. Strong consideration will be given to candidates with demonstrated Python skills and familiarity with weather and climate data.

      Job Duties & Responsibilities:
      • Performs complex analysis with moderate direction and supervision
      • Works directly with EPRI staff and may engage in supervised interaction with members and industry


      Key Responsibilities and Requirements:
      • Conducts technical searches and analyzes information in support of the project team
      • Development of python packages for climate research
      • May conduct independent research
      • Assists Project/Program managers in assessing customer needs, formulating technical approaches, preparing proposals, technical publications/papers, and making presentations


      Education:
      • Master's Degree or PhD in a technical field or equivalent experience required


      The ideal candidate would have:
      • Master's Degree or PhD in meteorology, climate sciences, geography, earth sciences, environmental engineering, energy resources, computer science, or a related field
      • Experience collecting and analyzing weather and climate data (weather and climate model outputs, surface station observations, reanalysis products, satellite observations, etc.)
      • Excellent Python skills including familiarity with the following packages: numpy, xarray, pandas, matplotlib, xclim, scikit-learn, dask, and tensorflow
      • Technical aptitude and experience with quantitative data analyses and methods, including statistical downscaling and bias-adjustment, extreme value theory, machine learning, and stochastic modeling
      • Familiarity with the published literature and policies relating to climate change impacts, adaptation, and vulnerability (e.g., IPCC WGII domain), climate scenarios and projected changes, and climate-energy-economics is a plus
      • Experience with climate models or hydrological models is a plus
      • Excellent research and writing skills; strong oral communications skills; ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner
      • A positive attitude, comfortable working both collaboratively and independently


      The salary range for this position is $92,150 USD to $102,900 USD annually.

      This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on various factors, including without limitation applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.

      This role is eligible to participate in EPRI's annual incentive program. The amount of incentive varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the plan.

      This role is eligible to participate in EPRI's standard employee benefit programs, which currently include the following: medical, dental, vision, 401k, STD/LTD and paid family leave, life and accident insurance, paid time off (flexible vacation, sick leave, and holiday pay).
