Job Description

- Work flexible hours;
- Perform routine and repetitive tasks;
- Maintain attention to detail in a past paced, time sensitive and confidential work setting;
- Communicate and interact effectively with supervisors, peers and the public;
- Perform proficient data entry skills;
- Operate a variety of automated office equipment including a personal computer and demonstrate some knowledge of modern office methods, practices, and pubic contact techniques;
- Clear and effective communication skills.
- Process election ballots;
- Validate, process and/or check voter registration forms;
- Perform data entry and voter look-up;
- Assist in Polling Place setup;
- Perform office work;
- Receive and answer telephone calls;
- Help resolve complaints and issues while exercising tact and discretion;
- Perform a variety of clerical duties;
- Utilize sound judgement in accordance with set standardized process and procedures; and
- Perform related duties as assigned.

The County of Santa Barbara's Clerk-Recorder-Assessor-Elections Office is currently hiring for 4 temporary (extra help) positions to perform a variety of ballot processing tasks, customer service and/or data entry functions in support of the upcoming Presidential Primary election. The anticipated start date is February 5, 2024.
The vacancies are located in Santa Barbara, CA and are temporary, extra help appointments as described below:
Civil Service Rule 905. Extra Help Appointment.
An extra help appointment is defined as an appointment made to a non-regular, non-permanent position established on a temporary basis to meet peak loads, unusual work situations, seasonal and recurrent work, intermittent assignments, or emergencies.
Benefits will be offered once extra help employees reach Affordable Care Act (ACA) eligibility.
These positions may be assigned to assist with data entry, ballot drop box pick-ups, call center, ballot processing or other office work areas. Assignments may require staff to work various shifts, overtime and/or weekends; however, hours are driven by the Elections Division workload and may be less or more than 8 hours/day. Depending upon job assignment, terms of employment may range from several weeks to several months.
