Work as a certified Blaster-in-Charge during avalanche mitigation
Purchase, store, and document explosive usage per Colorado and ATF requirements
Maintain current State and Federal explosives permits and licenses.
Serve as an ATF Responsible Person
Develop and manage explosives training programs.
Lead the avalanche forecasting and hazard mitigation process
Manage the snow safety portion of AM & PM guide meetings.
Manage all run openings and closings
Implement the Hazardous Travel Protocols as required
Oversee daily weather, snowpack, and avalanche database entry
Oversee daily observations submission
Manage the boot packing program
Develop and execute pre-season and ongoing snow safety trainings
Develop and manage professional development opportunities for veteran guide staff
Manage the IGCS weather stations
- Create the snow safety portion of the End of Season Report.
Document weather, explosive usage, and hazard mitigation
Collaborate with the Mountain Manager on seasonal performance reviews
Collaborate with the Mountain Manager on snow safety scheduling
Collaborate with the Ski Operations Manager to provide global deployment opportunities

Lead or Assistant Cat Ski Guide as described in the Guide job description
Guide oversight as described in the Guide Manager job description
Qualifications
Pro 2 Avalanche Certification or equivalent.
Minimum Wilderness First Responder & CPR Certification.
Colorado Type 1 Explosives Permit or the ability to obtain one
Expert skier or split-boarder with backcountry skiing experience.
Minimum of 5 years ski industry supervisory experience
Minimum of 10 years professional snow safety experience
High level operational weather and avalanche forecasting skills
High level operational risk management skills
Strong organization and communication skills
Strong work ethic, teamwork, and dynamic decision making skills.
High level self and social awareness
Experience with professional mentoring and training
Special Position Requirements
Must be comfortable traveling in complex avalanche terrain
Must be comfortable guiding in complex avalanche terrain
Must be comfortable transporting, storing, assembling, and detonating explosives
Physical Requirements
Expert skiing skills
Must be able to snowmobile to/from Irwin in all conditions
Must be able to work all day in a high elevation extreme winter weather environment
Must be able to lift 50+ pounds repeatedly.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience managing a snow safety program
Professional Ski Patrol experience
Experience guiding for a mechanized ski operation
American Mountain Guide Association Certification
Experience managing and repairing weather stations SALARY RANGE: $5,000-$6,000 per month

Position Purpose: Manage the Irwin Guides Cat Ski snow safety program. Lead daily avalanche forecasting efforts. Manage the explosives program and oversee mitigation efforts. Conduct avalanche mitigation work as a Blaster In Charge. Oversee the snow safety training program. Act as the daily Operations Manager as required. Assist with guiding operations.
