Reinsurance at If has two key purposes; to protect the group balance sheet and reduce the volatility in the group underwriting result. Our reinsurance team is responsible for planning, buying and enforcing appropriate reinsurance protection for the If P&C group. For that purpose, we have business relationships and trade with reinsurers and reinsurance brokers globally.
About the role
A Catastrophe [CAT] Reinsurance Treaty is an annual contract that protects an insurance company against very large aggregated insurance losses, such as thousands of individual claims arising out of a major flood or storm. As the CAT Reinsurance Manager, you are in charge of the structuring, negotiating and buying this treaty but you will be supported by reinsurance brokers representing If.This is an expert role with lots of individual responsibility and flexibility. You are the key player managing the whole reinsurance purchase process, making sure that we as a company are acting competently, honestly and with low operational risk in the reinsurance market. The job includes many analytical aspects, both on wording and data, so good ability and comfort level with numbers and clauses is necessary to enjoy the work and to be successful in this role.
As reinsurance is a global business where also personal relationships matter, this job includes extensive travel at times, but not throughout the year. As such, it is clearly beneficial if you consider work-travel stimulating and energizing. You will collaborate with a very large international reinsurance network and internally within If across the Nordic countries and the Baltics. Nevertheless, there is a lot of flexibility for you to plan your annual timeline around your preferences and family circumstances.
Who are you?
There is no specific must-have-experience required to take up this position; being driven, sociable and analytical is much more important for the job. In particular, a successful candidate needs to:
• have solid general insurance or reinsurance knowledge and experience
• be comfortable dealing with large quantities of data, and as such, also be rather good at regular excel usage
• be a great communicator as you are expected to explain technical details to a myriad of people, both internally at If and externally in the reinsurance market
• feel very comfortable with the English language, both spoken and written
• have a relevant academic degree in for example finance, economics, math / engineering / physics, risk engineering, law, accounting or actuarial. Or without a formal degree, a very solid base of relevant (re)insurance experience for example as underwriter, account executive, insurance analyst or legal counsel.Very beneficial is prior experience in Large Corporate Property Insurance or Reinsurance Underwriting or prior CAT reinsurance knowledge.
About the team
Our highly skilled reinsurance team consists of six people based in Espoo and two in If’s head office in Stockholm. We have frequent collaboration in the team and a vast exchange of knowledge and ideas, and you will find plenty of support in the team, not only when you are new in the role, but continuously as good ideas are seldom a product only one person’s work.
