- In depth knowledge of the oncology drug discovery and development landscape and Takeda’s portfolio of pipeline and marketed oncology assets.
- Drive the business development opportunity identification and triage process by working with a cross-functional review team to solicit input, understand new business opportunities, make preliminary recommendations and priority determinations. Relay conclusions to external parties and strategically arrange appropriate follow-up engagements.
- Coordinate technical due diligence evaluations and review of prioritized opportunities. Help prepare technical components of recommendations and proposals for senior management and governance consideration.
- Lead/co-lead scientific, clinical and technical review of prioritized oncology partnering opportunities. Research and gather information on public or private companies, specific molecules, clinical trials, etc., which meet the strategic, development and business priorities of the One Oncology organization.
- In collaboration with Global Project Teams and Global Medical Affairs (OBU GMA), assist in the development of Life Cycle Management (LCM) plans for in-licensing assets.
- Co-represent the Takeda One Oncology organization at major oncology related meetings, e.g. ASCO, ASH, EHA, ESMA, AACR.
- Co-represent Takeda One Oncology organization at major partnering meeting, e.g. JPM Conference, BIO, etc.
- In collaboration with integrated Disease Area Strategy (DAS) team leads proactively contribute and serve as a subject matter expert on assigned iDAS teams.
- Provide scientific and technical input and identify opportunities to devise or update current iDAS strategies based on BD activities.
- In collaboration with Global Regulatory Affairs (GRA) contribute to monitoring and awareness of current and emerging global regulatory trends and initiatives, e.g. novel endpoints for regulatory approval, statistical designs to support regulatory approval and regulatory review guidelines for approval of cancer drugs and /or cancer biomarkers, etc.
- Monitor and track the current and emerging Oncology competitive landscape in key oncology areas of interest consistent with iDAS and in close collaboration with OBU GOPPS Scientific & Competitive Analysis (SCA).
- Bachelors degree required; strong preference for advanced scientific degree (M.D., Ph.D.)
- Minimum 15 years relevant experience either in drug discover and development; pharma/biotech business development, strategy, or new product planning. Candidates with relevant backgrounds in investment banking, consulting, or healthcare equity analysis will also be considered.
- In-depth understanding of the oncology and rare disease drug development and regulatory review and approval process.
- Ability to motivate, mentor and manage a diverse team of subject matter experts in a highly matrixed environment.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to prioritize and complete multiple competing tasks and demands.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- 10-15% to attend scientific and medical conferences and engage in on-site due diligence activities.

Job Description
As the Senior Director, Business Development Search & Evaluation colleague, you will drive the assessment of late-stage business development opportunities for the Takeda Oncology Business Unit. This will include opportunity identification, sourcing, triage, business case development, cross-functional team leadership and partner company interactions in alignment with Takeda Oncology’s BD strategy and integrated Disease Area Strategies (iDAS). Collaborate on the development and execution of Takeda global oncology business development strategy.
ACOUNTABILITIES
Search and Evaluation (80%):
Identify, evaluate, and prioritize near-term (within 1-5 years of regulatory approval) oncology partnering opportunities consistent with Takeda’s Oncology BD strategy in close collaboration with Global Business Development (GBD), Global Oncology Products and Pipeline Strategy (GOPPS OBU), Oncology Therapeutic Area Unit (OTAU), Oncology Drug Discovery Unit (ODDU) and the Center for External Innovation (CEI):
Disease Area Strategy Development and Competitive Intelligence (20%):
