Title: Senior Financial Analyst
Duration: Full Time
Location: Remote but candidate should be Ok to work in PST time zone
Role Overview
The Finance & Spend Analytics Lead is a senior individual contributor responsible for ownership of the reconciliation of marketing spend data across financial systems, and the production of clear, executive-ready analytics and reporting for Microsoft Worldwide Device Sales (WDS).
This role serves as the single source of truth for spend, turning complex financial inputs into trusted insights and narrative-driven read-outs that inform decision-making at the director and executive level. The role partners closely with senior stakeholders and ensures that downstream owners are aligned, accountable, and responsive once the report is available.
This is a high-visibility, high-trust role requiring precision, ownership, and the ability to communicate with confidence in a fast-moving Microsoft environment.
Key Responsibilities
Finance, Spend & Reconciliation
• Own marketing spend data across multiple finance systems, including purchase orders (POs), invoices, forecasts, actuals, and commitments
• Reconcile variances between finance systems (e.g., PO vs. actuals vs. forecast), identifying drivers and explaining discrepancies clearly
• Track and validate different "pots" of spend (e.g., baseline budgets, incremental funding, partner-specific payment structures)
• Ensure spend narratives are accurate, defensible, and consistent across regions and partner conversations
Analytics & Reporting
• Own the creation and ongoing management of Power BI (MIR-centered) dashboards and reports
• Build and maintain high-quality charts, tables, and visualizations that enable senior leaders to quickly understand:
o What was spent
o Where variances exist
o What changed and why
o What actions are required
• Translate financial data into clear insights, not just numbers, suitable for director-level and above audiences
• Ensure analytics outputs are "ready to share" by leadership across core partners and internal teams
Stakeholder Enablement & Follow-Through
• Distribute completed reports to stakeholders' direct reports and actively follow up to ensure:
o Insights are reviewed
o Required narrative inputs are updated
o Gaps or inconsistencies are resolved
• Track responses and follow up persistently until reporting inputs are complete and accurate
• Serve as a reliable partner who closes loops and ensures accountability across contributors
Program & Execution Rigor
• Manage reporting timelines, dependencies, and inputs with strong project management discipline
• Maintain a clear record of open actions, owners, and next steps
• Balance multiple priorities simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and responsiveness
Qualifications & Experience
Required
• 7+ years of experience in finance analytics, spend analysis, business analytics, or a related role
• Hands-on experience reconciling data across multiple financial systems (POs, invoices, forecasts, actuals)
• Strong understanding of core finance concepts and how spend flows through enterprise organizations
• Demonstrated experience using Power BI (or Tableau) to build, maintain, and explain dashboards and reports
• Proven ability to communicate insights confidently to director-level and executive stakeholders
• Strong project management and follow-through skills; comfortable owning work end-to-end
• Exceptional attention to detail and data integrity
Preferred
• Experience supporting global sales, retail, or channel-driven organizations
• Familiarity with partner ecosystems (e.g., retailers such as Best Buy, Target, Walmart)
• Experience operating in Microsoft or comparable enterprise environments
Core Capabilities & Attributes
• Executive presence & gravitas: Communicates clearly, crisply, and with confidence in senior forums
• Analytical rigor: Digs into data, reconciles discrepancies, and brings clarity to complexity
• Operational ownership: Doesn't just create reports - ensures they are actioned and completed
• Strong communicator: Able to explain finance concepts to non-finance audiences
• Highly organized & proactive: Manages multiple inputs, deadlines, and stakeholders without losing accuracy
• Agile & resilient: Thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment with shifting priorities
Why This Role Matters
This role is critical to ensuring trust in the numbers across WDS. When leadership views spend, they need confidence that:
• The data is correct
• Variances are understood
• Actions are clear
• Follow-through will happen
