- Deliver expert guidance to school food authorities (SFAs) on program operations, regulatory compliance, financial management, and best practices.
- Interpret federal and state regulations for school meal programs, summer nutrition programs, and CACFP At-Risk Afterschool meals and communicate policy updates clearly and promptly.
- Provide technical assistance through on-site visits, virtual meetings, email, and phone communication.
- Conduct administrative reviews for the NSLP, SBP, NSLP afterschool snacks, summer nutrition programs, and CACFP At-Risk Afterschool Meals following state and federal guidance and protocols.
- Prepare accurate reports and communicate results to school and VDOE-SCNP leadership.
- Review and verify SFA submissions, including annual applications, verification reports, financial reports, and food safety inspection reports.
- Conduct Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) outreach with assigned school divisions and conduct annual CEP data validations.
- Monitor non-program revenue compliance, paid lunch equity requirements, and excess fund balance thresholds.
- Develop, coordinate, and deliver training based on identified needs and statewide program objectives and deliver training during on-site visits, regional meetings, conferences, both virtually and in-person.
- Knowledge of the administration and management of school and child nutrition programs, including federal and state regulations.
- Knowledge of nutrition principles, menu planning, food safety, food production, procurement, and financial management.
- Knowledge of school systems, state agency functions, and state/local government procedures.
- Knowledge of adult learning principles and training methodologies.
- Ability to develop and present training both in-person and virtually.
- Experience in conducting data analysis, reporting, and creating documentation.
- Ability to interpret policies, assess programs, and recommend improvements.
- Ability to analyze operational and financial data to support compliance and improvement.
- Experience administering school nutrition programs at the local, state, or federal level.
- Experience in education, public health, or social services.
- Experience designing and delivering professional development.
- Foodservice management experience.
- Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) with school nutrition experience.
- School Nutrition Association membership with the School Nutrition Specialist (SNS) credential or certification preferred.

Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is recruiting for a School and Community Nutrition Regional Specialist for the Northern Virginia or Richmond Regions who would be responsible for providing leadership, technical expertise, and assistance to all child nutrition programs administered by the Office of School and Community Nutrition Programs and to develop effective programs and to ensure all children have access to nutritious meals while maintaining program integrity and financial accountability.
