What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Assist with shelf-preparation for newly cataloged printed and published materials
- Shelve new materials including books, broadsides, and periodicals
- Retrieve rare books, manuscripts, and university archives for patron requests
- Conduct stacks inventory and add call numbers and barcodes to previously cataloged materials with training
- Ensure accuracy in data entry and maintain attention to detail
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Must be a current undergraduate or graduate student at the employer
- No previous experience required
- Ability to lift boxes weighing up to 40 lbs
- Excellent handwriting and communication skills
- Attention to detail and ability to multi-task
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Any library work experience
- Familiarity with U.S. and Virginia history and/or American literature
- Foreign language skills
- Experience working with databases
