      Position Specific Summary

      This position will be trained to contribute to the team in the Office of the Vice Provost for Research (OVPR) by supporting the work of the Data Analyst, Applications Administrator and Director of Operations. The student will play a crucial role in supporting the research initiatives of the university's research department. The primary responsibilities of this position is to analyze and interpret various datasets, enter data to set up sponsor organization requests, and support department events. The student will collaborate with team members to ensure data accuracy, design effective data collection methods, and present findings in a clear and understandable manner. The student may also have the opportunity to manage projects and support administrative functions.

      The student will perform a range of data analysis, visualization, quality assurance, data entry, project coordination, and administrative duties, including but not limited to:
      • Create routine and ad hoc reports reflecting sponsored project metrics.
      • Analyze annual reports and datasets to identify historical trends and insights.
      • Verify data quality and accuracy.
      • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) documentation.
      • Support OVPR systems and related processes including, but not limited to, responding to user and sponsor requests.
      • Create clear and visually effective data visualizations (charts, graphs, etc.) to communicate findings.
      • Assist with planning, coordinating, and executing OVPR projects, meetings, events, and related administrative activities.
      • Perform other related duties as assigned in support of senior staff.


      Working Conditions: The student will primarily work within the OVPR department.       Standard Position Description
      • The student will support departmental decision-making through and/or projects through the development of reports, data visualizations, and insights.
      • Tasks may include: Collecting, cleaning, and analyzing datasets from internal systems (e.g., surveys, spreadsheets, databases), Develop dashboards, reports, and visualizations to summarize findings. Using statistical tools (e.g., Excel, R, SPSS, or Python) to identify trends and insights. Presenting data findings in written and verbal formats to non-technical audiences. Collaborating with faculty/staff to identify opportunities for data-driven improvement. Ensuring accuracy, consistency, and privacy in all data handling processes. May mentor or review work of other student assistants.
      • Special projects or other duties may be assigned related to specific departmental needs.

      Previous skills, training, or experience is required.

      • Current student in a relevant field (Statistics, Data Science, Social Sciences, etc.).
      • Proficient in data analysis and manipulation using MS Excel.
      • Strong attention to detail, project management, organization, and effective written/verbal communication skills.
