      Position Title: Technical Development Commissioning Specialist

      Position Location: Remote - work from anywhere in the United States. Must be located near a major airport.

      Travel Requirements: Up to 75% domestic travel; must have a valid driver's license and ability to rent vehicles.

      JOB SUMMARY

      The Technical Development Commissioning Specialist is a cross-functional role responsible for developing departmental commissioning standards, training materials, and supporting rapid-response field engagements across both Electrical (ECx) and Mechanical (MCx) commissioning disciplines.

      This position bridges the Standards & Documentation function, the Training & Curriculum function, and the Field Excellence (Tiger Team) function, serving as a flexible, high-impact contributor who can develop content, deliver onsite training, and respond to emergency field needs as directed.

      Reporting directly to the Associate Director, Technical Development, this role requires deep technical fluency in either ECx or MCx commissioning systems, strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to shift rapidly between desk-based content development and field-based execution.

      This person will receive limited direction on day-to-day work and general instruction on new projects, tasks or assignments. Will execute and assist team leadership on projects, tasks or assignments of complex scope. Will work independently or under limited supervision.

      ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

      Standards & Documentation Development (30%)

      • Draft, update, and maintain commissioning standards, checklists, care packages, commissioning plans, and playbooks spanning both ECx and MCx disciplines
      • Pilot documentation updates with Program Leads and field teams to validate practicality, technical accuracy, and field readiness prior to formal release
      • Submit proposed updates through the Associate Director, Technical Development for change control and departmental approval
      • Translate complex technical scenarios and lessons learned into standardized approaches that minimize risk, reduce rework, and ensure quality
      • Produce concise job aids, quick-reference guides, and technical visuals to improve field adoption of standards
      • Coordinate with Program Leads to confirm standards are consistently deployed across projects and appropriately tailored to client or program requirements
      • Ensure standard commissioning documents provided externally (by clients, GCs, or vendors) are tracked and treated as gating documents prior to procedural advancement

      Training Development & Delivery (25%)

      • Design, develop, and maintain technical training content for both ECx and MCx commissioning disciplines, including blended learning modules, job aids, assessments, and instructional scenarios
      • Write structured learning outcomes and storyboards aligned with departmental commissioning standards and project deliverables
      • Refresh training modules within defined timelines following standards updates or procedural changes, ensuring content remains current and accurate
      • Develop and deliver onsite training sessions, labs, demonstrations, and clinics during field engagements
      • Provide technical context to field staff and site leads, explaining not only how documents and tools are used, but why they exist and how changes are managed
      • Develop quick-reference guides, mentor support tools, and scenario-based learning aids to reinforce correct practices during onboarding and OJT engagements
      • Partner with Program Leads and site teams to identify skill gaps and tailor training delivery accordingly


      Field Excellence & Rapid Response (25%)

      • Deploy to project sites on short notice to support field teams during emergency or high-priority commissioning situations, including defect backlog reduction, test setup corrections, and procedural realignment
      • Provide hands-on coaching and OJT to local commissioning staff during field engagements, reinforcing departmental standards and modeling correct execution
      • Evaluate commissioning plans, testing sequences, and execution approaches during site visits, providing structured field-level recommendations to the site team and Commissioning Manager
      • Identify misalignments between project execution and DLB's standard commissioning methodologies; escalate systemic gaps to the Commissioning Manager for departmental follow-up
      • Document OJT participation, defect findings, corrective actions, and lessons learned in real time, submitting records through appropriate channels for program-level tracking
      • Reinforce site-specific safety protocols (PPE, lockout/tagout, permits) with site teams during all field engagements


      Continuous Improvement & Knowledge Capture (10%)

      • Analyze field data (defects, RFIs, audit findings) to help prioritize standards updates and measure the effectiveness of current documentation and training
      • Capture and formalize lessons learned from field engagements and program feedback, translating them into updated standards, training modules, or job aids within defined timelines
      • Contribute to gap analysis activities during both proposal development and project execution phases
      • Host or support recurring standards clinics, Q&A sessions, and technical workshops to communicate updates and strengthen department-wide alignment
      • Flag recurring defects, systemic issues, and field observations to the Commissioning Manager for integration into departmental improvement initiatives


      Proposal Support (10%)

      • Draft technical language for proposals covering commissioning approach, QA/QC methodology, risk assessments, and cross-discipline execution strategies
      • Perform gap analyses during proposal development to validate scope alignment with client requirements, industry codes, and departmental standards
      • Supply case studies, lessons learned, and technical narratives from the field that strengthen proposal content
      • Provide inputs on staffing ramps, resource loading logic, and trade-specific sequencing to support accurate proposal assumptions


      Completion of Assigned Tasks and Deliverables on Time and on Budget

      Performs Other Related Duties as Assigned

      POSITION REQUIREMENTS (ADVANCED LEVEL FOR ALL OF THE FOLLOWING)

      • Deep technical fluency in electrical (ECx) and/or mechanical (MCx) commissioning systems within data centers, critical facilities, or large-scale infrastructure
      • Demonstrated ability to develop commissioning standards, procedures, and technical documentation with a high degree of accuracy and usability
      • Experience designing or delivering technical training programs, job aids, or curriculum content for field-based engineering or construction teams
      • Proven ability to work effectively in fast-paced, multi-site field environments with shifting priorities and short-notice deployments
      • Strong background in defect analysis, root-cause identification, and translating findings into practical corrective content
      • Skilled at using MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams), along with strong documentation and reporting skills
      • Experience with collaboration and documentation platforms (SharePoint, Smartsheet, Power Automate, Procore, or similar)
      • Ability to leverage AI and emerging technologies to streamline workflows and optimize operational processes
      • Ability to work successfully in a remote environment through effective communication, self-motivation, and proactiveness
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex commissioning procedures into clear, actionable content for diverse audiences
      • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent deliverables across content development and field engagements
      • Familiarity with proposal development processes, RFPs, and client compliance requirements

      TRAVEL / RELOCATION REQUIREMENTS

      • Must have a valid driver's license and ability to rent vehicles
      • Up to 75%, this may include travel to any or all 50 US states
      • Must be located near a major airport
      • Effective May 7, 2025, and in accordance with U.S. federal regulations for domestic air travel, a valid REAL ID (or an acceptable alternative, such as a passport) is required
      • Travel may involve transportation by car or plane depending on destination and business need
      • Potential for international assignments
      • Field Excellence (Tiger Team) engagements may require unplanned, extended periods of heavy travel on short notice; a fixed rotation schedule (e.g., set days on/off) is not guaranteed and should not be assumed


      EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

      • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or related technical discipline) preferred

      OR

      • Equivalent combination of field experience and technical certifications

      PLUS
      • Minimum 3 years of hands-on commissioning experience across ECx and/or MCx systems within data centers, critical facilities, or large-scale infrastructure

      CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED

      • Must be able to obtain NFPA 70E / OSHA 30 / Competent Person certifications as required
      • Professional certifications such as CxA or applicable trade licenses strongly preferred
