Staff Accountant

About the Team

You will be part of the General Accounting team based out of our headquarters in San Francisco, California. This team is responsible for ensuring the consolidated financial statements of Williams-Sonoma, Inc. are complete and accurate, including managing the global monthly accounting close.

Overview of the Role

We are looking for a Staff Accountant to support the General Ledger team with month end close activities and other tasks.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and post journal entries in Oracle and maintain recurring allocations in accordance with established deadlines.
• Prepare schedules and supporting calculations for prepaids, paper, and postage purchases and usage; review and validate related invoices; and partner with Technology and Marketing teams to resolve questions.
• Maintain the inventory of standard journal entries and perform controls to ensure all required entries are completed accurately and on time.
• Support month-end close activities, including close communications, assigned close tasks, transaction validations, and follow-up on outstanding items with business partners.
• Validate transactions interfaced into the general ledger and analyze accounts to ensure transactions are accurately recorded and coded.
• Perform cash application activities in Oracle Accounts Receivable for franchise customers.
• Assist with Census reporting and statutory financial reporting.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for Oracle journal entry support, including uploads, reversals, approval workflows, report generation, and other user inquiries.
• Prepare account reconciliations and investigate and resolve reconciling items and account variances.
• Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation, analyses, and explanations.
• Utilize approved AI-enabled tools and automation technologies to improve efficiency, analyze accounting data, prepare documentation, and streamline recurring accounting processes while maintaining professional judgment, data confidentiality, accuracy, and compliance with internal controls.
• Support the General Ledger and Accounts Receivable teams with special projects and other assigned responsibilities.

Criteria

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Minimum of two years of experience in a corporate accounting environment; experience with a global, publicly traded company is preferred.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Self-starter with a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a high degree of reliability.
• Sound professional judgment with the ability to identify issues and escalate when appropriate.
• Adaptable and willing to learn and apply new technologies. Experience using AI productivity tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT Enterprise, Oracle AI capabilities, or similar technologies) to improve accounting processes and efficiency is a plus.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet tight deadlines, and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, and complex formulas.
• Experience with Oracle Cloud ERP is preferred.
• Ability to work onsite in the San Francisco office Monday through Thursday and remotely on Fridays

The expected starting pay range for this position is $75,000-$95,000. Applicable pay ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. In addition to competitive pay, compensation may include a variety of other components like benefits, paid time off, merit, and bonus opportunities.
