      Job summary

      We have an exciting opportunity for an Advanced Paediatric Dietitian at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust to join the Nutrition and Dietetics team at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. You will be responsible for working as an autonomous practitioner and acting as a source of clinical expertise in paediatric and neonatal care. You will manage and support a complex caseload of patients, providing high-quality, evidence-based dietetic services as part of a multi-disciplinary team on the paediatric and neonatal units. Additionally, you will provide specialised assessment, treatment, and support for paediatric inpatients and outpatients, and offer occasional cover for other specialist dietitians when required.

      Main duties of the job

      As an Advanced Paediatric Dietitian, you will be responsible for planning, providing, and evaluating the paediatric dietetic service in collaboration with the Paediatric Dietetic Team Lead and Nutrition and Dietetic Service Manager. You will manage and support the clinical and professional development of junior Dietitians, Dietetic Support Workers, and student dietitians. You will also work closely with the paediatric multidisciplinary team, supporting training for other healthcare professionals and contributing to the ongoing development and improvement of the service.

      • To demonstrate a high standard of clinical knowledge and practical experience in general dietetics, providing specialist expertise in paediatric and neonatal care across designated wards and clinics.
      • To undertake comprehensive, patient-centred assessments, interpreting biochemistry, anthropometrics, clinical conditions, and diet history, and use advanced clinical reasoning to develop personalised nutritional goals.
      • To develop and implement treatment plans for patients on caseload, providing expert advice to patients, carers, and clinicians, and using motivational techniques to optimise dietary intake.
      • To maintain accurate, comprehensive, and timely records of all assessments, interventions, and clinical activities in line with BDA, HCPC, Trust, and departmental standards.
      • To liaise effectively with medical, nursing, multidisciplinary teams, and external agencies to support discharge planning, continuity of care, and the provision of specialised enteral feeds and nutritional support.
      • To participate in audit, policy development, and service improvement initiatives, assessing clinical outcomes and evidence-based practice to recommend and implement changes for enhanced patient care.
