      We’re hiring for an Agriculture / Weights and Measures Technician to perform a wide variety of technical and administrative duties in department programs such as Pest Management and Weed Abatement. On any given day, you could be inspecting incoming plant shipments at nurseries, private residences, and landscaping sites; deploy, check, and service traps used to detect invasive pest species (i.e. Oriental Fruit Fly, Glassy-Winged Sharpshooter, Red Imported Fire Ant, etc.); eradicating invasive weed species; preparing and maintaining reports and records; and so much more.

      This position requires:

      • Work both indoors and outdoors, in all kinds of weather conditions
      • Operation of county vehicles and specialized equipment
      • The ability to perform moderate strenuous activities such as walking, climbing, lifting and carrying up to 60 pounds

      Education and Experience

      A combination of education, training, and experience resulting in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of qualifying education and experience includes:


      Agricultural/Weights & Measures Technician I: Either A: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in agricultural, biological, natural resources, chemical or physical sciences, or other appropriate disciplines. Or B: Completion of two (2) years (60 semester units or 90 quarter units) in an accredited college or university in agricultural, biological, natural resources, chemical or physical sciences, or other appropriate disciplines, AND two (2) years of experience performing related agricultural or weights and measures tasks. Licenses and Certificates

      Certain positions within this classification may require driving. When driving is an essential function of the position, a valid CALIFORNIA driver license will be required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.

      Other Specifications

      Other Conditions of Employment:
      Employees must be willing and able to respond to after-normal workday or irregular and on-call emergency requests on nights, weekends and holidays. Travel may be required to and from work sites, businesses and other locations.
