Job Description
- Req#: 149
- Perform electrical maintenance and repairs on electrical systems located on airside to ensure the 24/7 operation of runway/taxiway lighting systems, apron lighting, buildings and motorized gates;
- Conduct visual and operational checks on all airfield lighting systems;
- Conduct routing tests, preventive maintenance inspections and repairs as required of low, medium and high voltage circuits as well as series lighting circuits;
- Inspects contractor completed work of airside lighting projects for compliance;
- Maintenance of constant current regulators and emergency power plant equipment;
- Maintains 24/hour operation of NAVCAN equipment;
- Physically able to:
- Lift and push up to 50lbs;
- Walk, stand, stoop and bend 40-50% of workday;
- Work within an environment with noise and vibration 30-50% of workday;
- Work at heights of up to 70 ft; and
- Withstand seasonal weather conditions with exposure to cold, heat, wind, rain, and snow 50% of workday.
- Valid Inter-provincial Journeyman Electrician license;
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as an industrial or construction electrician in a commercial or industrial sector;
- Ability to read and understand electrical diagrams and blueprints;
- Working knowledge of fault-finding equipment, static crafts simulators and high impulse generators and control;
- Excellent technical troubleshooting skills;
- Ability to work in a team environment and independently;
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
- Ability to work occasional overtime and standby shifts on a rotational basis for critical system maintenance; and
- Minimum class 5 driver’s license, with the ability to obtain an Airport Vehicle Operator’s Permit and restricted radio/telephone license.

The Opportunity
Reporting to the Supervisor, Airfield Electrical, the Airfield Electrician maintains all airside electrical installations including runway, taxiway and apron lighting, and airside buildings and motorized gates. This role also carries out visual and operational inspections and maintenance to emergency power plant equipment and maintains visual aids for aircraft.
